"Digital" sound ?

Post by Tiggr »

Having a garden railway (LGB 1:22 scale), some of my locos have digital sound with up to 16 different functions - for example whistle, steam pump, shovelling coal, uncoupling, synchronised chuffs etc.

Is this type of sound unit available for tanks ? With sound from the real thing ?

Hello Tiggr, there are a few boards that replicate real tank sounds. Engine start/shutdown, track squeaks, machine gun fire, cannon fire, empty shell hitting the tank floor, are just a few sounds that are available.

Here are a few boards that provide these sounds, not in any order.

IBU2 base and pro versions.
IBU3
Clark
El Mod
ASP. I think they make two types now.
Tamiya

The stock Heng Long and Taigen tanks come with built in sounds but they are no way as good as the ones above. Contact Tankbear on this forum( rctankelectronics) for the IBU line of boards.

Tiggr Hi, It would be helpful knowing where in the world you are,
As Joe said almost all boards for 1/16 Tanks have a sound chip but as with the rest of our daily activities the more you are willing to spend the better the range of available sounds.
For the ASP/2 go to
www.rctanksaustralia.com
and click on E-SHOP
For the CLARK Boards T22/24 go to
www.heng-long-panzer.de
and click on the German flag then click on the Union Flag and you get an English translation,
For the IBU2/PRO and IBU3 go to
www.rctankelectronics.com
I am making an assumption that you are a UK resident but all the above makers /dealers will be able to help you if you live elsewhere. Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Excellent. Thanks guys.

At least one of my Tigers needs the authentic Maybach engine sounds.
(I'm in North Wales just a few miles from Chester).

The "ASP" default engine is the Tiger1 but you can download any other engine sound that you wish,
If you go to the "CLARK" Menu you will see that the TK22 comes with a choice of different engines and you buy the one that is suitable for your Tank (They are listed),
If you are interested in the IBU then talk to IAN (TANKBEAR on this Forum) and he will ensure your choice is on the included Micro-SD card, you can of course change any sounds that you wish by downloading them onto the SD card via your Computer.

lposter wrote:Your original post seems to refer specifically to sound boards so the Benedini unit would be worth a look. You may have to get the sounds somewhere yourself but its hardly difficult.

If you were looking for a control+sound board then the others mentioned would of course fit the bill.

The Bendini sound card certainly sounds like the real thing, I'm sure some of the others are as good.

In terms of how the sounds function, npresumably they are linked to motor speed and switches on the RC handset. Are there enough buttons or are some sounds a sequence ? Gun load, firing, cartridge hitting the deck/ falling into catcher on top of other spent cartridges, etc ?

If you go to "YOU TUBE" and Type in---
"Tiger 1 with an IBU2"
You will find a wide choice of different builds displaying the sound range of the IBU2 control board, well worth a listen.

In my head I am drawn to a set up that controls and produces sound - I trust that would more easily facilitate synchronisation ?
My tigers are Taigen - is it a relatively easy substitution of the original board for the new one ?

I have wired up my garden railway locos with new sound boards but RC tanks are more complex by the look of them.
I noticed in another thread that Vistaton speakers are highly recommended- I can confirm that from installs in my locos.
