gearboxes/motors for hooben elefant

Hi Guys.
As the titles suggest, can any hooben heferlump owner please advise me as to wether it is worth while upgrading
the gearbox/motors that come with it,
They look pretty good but I have red that some feel that they are worth replacing.
I am looking to get a slow but powerful set up. say 5/1 gearing.
what can you please advise.

The newer hooben elefant comes with a 7 stage (their terminology) gearbox, full bearings etc they're very nice. You would need the gearbox mounting plate too. It might be worth contacting them directly or Carson at dklm models to see if he can get hold of some.

Could tamiya gearboxes fit with a custom plate?

Tamiya gearboxes for without a plate just new mounting holes. But there are better lower ratio gearboxes out there now which I would go for.

So the new ones in the new T55 are a lot better now? I know some people put pershing nones in.
