Having recently acquired an Asiatam PZ 4 metal hull, whilst the build is way off (a TIGER and a 1/2 to finish) I could do with some advise, Should I go for a 4 to 1 or a 5 to 1 gearbox ?
And while I am here does anyone have any tips or words of wisdom about the Asiatam Metal hull.
Shaun.

My Asiatam PIV came with the gearboxes with the last pinion removable, so you can change the speed-torque.jarndice wrote:Having recently acquired an Asiatam PZ 4 metal hull, whilst the build is way off (a TIGER and a 1/2 to finish) I could do with some advise, Should I go for a 4 to 1 or a 5 to 1 gearbox ?

Shaun.

They use quite small motors, but runs wonderfull, the only problem is that are VERY noisy. Im going to fit some rubber between the gearboxes and the mounting plate. I think you can also mount the two speeds Mato ones which would be probarbly better and they bit bigger motors.
TIps and words of wisdom... Im still building mine, but the suspension is a shit and needs a lot of work, Im considering to replace it with the Tamiya parts. And some people says the idler usually breakes. And yeah, most tracks are too short, so make sure to buy a couple spare links per track.
This is mine so far. I want to do a winter version with skirts and cupula belt.

Re: gears for a PZ4
Thanks Rad,
I am fine for tracks and as to the Idlers, having built a few PZ4s in the past I already had a brand new set ready, and when I compared them, the ASIATAM ones look like they are made from spagetti ,
I also have a beefier set of track adjusters as an alternative.
I was already going to fit nylon washers between the gearbox mount and the gearboxes because I found out a long time ago the difference they make as well as to the gearbox mount and the hull.
I have never come upon a PZ4 suspension system that is any good so I might have a look at TAMIYAs offering, So it seems I shall be trawling through "AXELS" site for price and availability, The good thing is that because I am in no rush it gives me time to look further afield if needs be.

If you fit the tamiya parts, please give me a ring. They cost a fortune (about 130 euros) and Im not sure to buy them or not.
Im sure that parts are way better than the asiatam suspension but I cant justify the price.

Re: gears for a PZ4
Rad, I have been looking through "AXELS" Tamiya PZ4 suspension prices and it looks like I shall need BAG "L", euro 42.04 BAG "R", euro 45.86
Suspension arm bag, euro 11.94 Torsion bar bag, euro 12.96 and Shaft bag, euro 32.25
The good news is that it is all available,
The bad news is that if my list is right then it will be more than your suggested figure of Euro 130, in fact if you include Postage about Euro 180 seems closer. Shaun.

Wow definitelly the prices are rising up. Last time I took a look to the pieces it was +-130 plus shipping...
Thats a lot of dough to invest.
Anyway if you dont run too much your tank at the backyard over grass and things like that you can keep the original suspension.

Re: gears for a PZ4
Hi Jarndice,
the 5:1 motoer ar good for a light to medium weight tank but underpowered for a heavy tank.
I have them in a taigen metal KV-2 ( about 7+ Kgs ) because they are low profile. They are adjusted for max torque, but HL or Taigen 4:1 would be better. The 4:1 high mount motors wont fit in the KV-2, and for that matter i dont think they will fit in your PZ4.
I would like to know how the 5:1's go if you do fit them. I would probably fit them into my Wirbelwind.
Cheers
