klear/Pledge

Post by Pebs434 »

I have heard from several sources that the above are a good way to seal your paintwork once complete. I am aware of their history and that Pledge is the new Klear etc.
Can anybody give me any tips please so I don't destroy many hours of work by using it on the wrong type of paints etc. I would really appreciate a guide to what paints/varnishes/seals etc can go on what and in which order is best.
Thank you.

I cheat, I use Vallejo Model Colour paint, and airbrush it with 33% paint, 33% matt varnish, and 33% water. One bottle mixed that way is more than enough to do a whole tank, it dries in minutes, and is very tough. I got fed up with applying matt varnish after spraying and getting fogging on all my hard work.

The only reason I ever used Klear was to provide a smooth surface on a Matte paint allowing the application of Decals,
Now after I have painted a Matte finish I brush liberal amounts of "MICROSOL" in the place where the Decals are to go,
On with the Decals and brush over them with "MICROSET" and leave for 12 hours then spray or brush a Matte ACYLIC Varnish over the whole build and the jobs done.

The acrylic floor polish is not the final coat. I use it after my basic painting is done to apply decals and it is also great to get capillary action when doing pin washes and some shading. But once that is done I actually use flat lacquer which you can find at RR hobby shops and do that as my final all over coat and then I add some final dusting.... Everybody has their own methods... :D
