New Panzer III build
Re: New Panzer III build
I was thinking exactly the same thing, maybe apply some decals and paint up the tools and that's it. I think that'll make for a great looking tank.

Interested to see what you did with the exhaust Gary, I have been trying to find a functional later version.

I'm still trying to get a hold of a plastic exhaust to work with. matomart never has them in stock (and they won't tell you that, they just hold up your order for a couple weeks and then they email you and ask if they can ship the rest and refund the money for the exhaust). One of the guys is supposed to be sending me one, but I can't remember who so i can't ask him what's going on with that. As soon as I get a plastic exhaust to play around with I should be able to make something happen.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Re: New Panzer III build
Acoustic smoker are the best in my view- made 3 so far. Once you get the hang of it.. really easy.
I just use the cup that fits the 1 inch smoke unit and use the method and sizes outlined by Normand. But what makes it really simple and work well for me is mounting the whole thing on the TARR I in place of the Fan. Just fill in the old holes and drill a hole for the acoustic pipe. Now the only thing is that brings the total height to 2.5 inches but of course the cup and speaker can be side mounted too. The only thing added later and not shown here is a control to adjust the Acoustic speaker/smoke independent of the main speaker. Oh and FRS speaker in airtight box but that has nothing to do with the smoke unit

I thought you already got a plastic exhaust in another forum. I have one spare if you are interested.Max-U52 wrote:I'm still trying to get a hold of a plastic exhaust to work with. matomart never has them in stock (and they won't tell you that, they just hold up your order for a couple weeks and then they email you and ask if they can ship the rest and refund the money for the exhaust). Re: New Panzer III build
Some time ago I considered investing in a Mato Uper hull too. Why did you buy the asiatam lower hull? Is it much better than the mato lower hull?mitchell wrote:Well the rest of the components arrived today to enable me to complete the bulk of my build
^^^The completely solid Mato Pz3 upper, with more functioning hatches than you can shake a stick at!
Now i'm wrestling with how best to paint it, or if to paint it

Re: New Panzer III build
The asiatam hull for the Pz3 is a reliable, well built unit that gives a sturdy quality feel, and considering the availability issues of mato lower hulls, offers a strong but lightweight alternative
I have 2 pz3 hulls from asiatam and can't praise them enough
The level of detail in mato metal uppers is superb. Adding the metal upper to the asiatam metal chassis makes for a really nice strong stable tank.
I have 5:1 asiatam low profile brass gearboxes in there, wow what a combination, smooth quiet and makes a lovely well machined sound.
The other asiatam pz3 chassis is destined to become a Stug 3, with exactly the same setup as the pz3 but with a mato Stug 3 upper. But instead of the asiatam GB's the closest match I could find is the Taigen black steel 5:1's. Their good, there's no doubting that, really, but their not the same. They do share what looks like the same pressed steel structure, with the same brass bushes at the ends of all the gears and nice bearings at each end of the drive shafts. If only they were brass....I am still happy that I got them, their a good alternative.
Mine came set to the lower ratio and so we're a little quick for my liking, but that was straight forward to change them over
