The letter G on some Tiger tanks

Post by jtracks »

I know that the letter G was placed on the front of some German armor (Tiger II) after a General who's last name started with a G. For the life of me, I can't remember his name nor can I find the article I read with his name. The G was placed on the front of the tank in his honor by the men who served under him. Can anyone help me out? King Tigers 007 008 009 from the Ardennes offensive come to mind. Tank 008 was the command tank.

don't think it was done as the honour his men felt serving under him ! more at the start of the war, the wehrmacht had von kleist and guderian in charge of two armies.i have seen many pictures of german armour with both "G" and "K" for the aforementioned generals.

I wish I could find the article again, it explains in detail why it was done. I'll keep looking and post it if I find it.
