Tank modifications

Post by vyvsdad »

Hello all.

I'm new here, so please be gentle with me.
Me and my son a heng Iong tank each (a leopard and a challenger 2, both mechanically standard) that I have rigged with FPV so we can hunt each and generally play about.

The think is that any attempt at realism is gradually going out of the window and our battles are becoming more and more of an arms race, and he is winning.

In order to remain competitive I think I need yoy e help.
What is the easiest way to achieve the fellowing:
More speed. His tank is faster.
Quieter. I've turned off the sound effects but the motor, drive train and turret are still noisy. The FPV is micced up, so he can heat me coming.
A faster turret. That would be handy.

I've no idea what he has done to his as we have an agreement not to ask/tell.

So, please help me beat my son as he is opening up quite a lead.

Oh, and I have the leopard, if that helps.
Thanks in advance.

Dan.

LOL I hope when my sons grow up I can start an arms race like yours.

For getting more speed you can change the motors. This ones are VERY fast: http://tankarmy.com/heng-long-tank/prod ... ble-p-1489 but may stall some boards.

You can also replace the electronics (Ibu2, Ibu3, Elmod...) and maybe with a 3S Lipo battery you can get more speed and more turret speed, but I have not tested yet, my Panzer III with that motors is really really fast. (Warning, do not use a 3S battery with the standard heng long electronics)

About the noise you could try to put some silicone washers between the gearboxes and the hull, that might help a bit, but there is not much to do there.

If you have time, please share with us how you did your fpv.

Re turning it may be quicker to turn the whole tank & leave the turret pointing forwards?

Also don't forget putting a cover over the receiver, and pulling the wire out of your son's emitter?

I did think about locking of the turret but it is handy for looking around.
As for those motors, are they available in the UK? I imagine the shipping will be quite steep.
I did think that maybe gears were just too noisy full stop and am investigating a pulley drive.
As for the FPV, I'll upload links as soon as I get my computer back from being repaired. I'm also looking into head tracking...

I would go with promax 400 or 480 motors (ACC 340 or ACC 348) those red ones will burn out the RX 18 I think.
