To be honest I have never used a battery pack when binding an rx to a tx. I use a Flysky FST6, and it works perfectly on all of my boards, Elmod, Clark, and IBU. I used to have a Planet T5, and that worked fine too.
I just pull all of the leads from the rx, and plug the binding plug in.
Then switch on the tx while keeping the binding button pressed down.
Keep the binding button pressed down and switch on the tank.
The rx flashing changes and it is bound.
Release the binding button.
Switch off tank, switch off tx. (This is when the binding gets saved between the two).
Switch on tx, switch on tank, and the rx light is static on.
I run mine in Mode 1, which gives me Heng Long style controls. (On a Planet unscrew the back cover, there is a switch lower left for mode 1 or 2).
Throttle = right stick up down.
Turn = right stick left right.
Gun = left stick up.
Elevation = left stick up down (off centre)
Turret rotation = left stick left right.
If any of the controls work the wrong way then either reverse the polarity of the soldered connections to the motors or reverse the channels.
Adjust the trims so that all controls are neutral. One sign of a trim being out of synch is a whining noise.
Place the tank on a block so that the tracks are clear of the surface before starting it. That way if anything needs adjusting it can't shoot off the table, or crash into a wall, while you are setting it up.
To start the tank, the SD card must be inserted and the tank profile files must be in the root on the card, not in a folder. To change tank just delete the files in the root, and copy (not move) the files that you want from the folder to the root.
Depending on whether channels are reversed or not, will determine where your tank start position is. Mine is left stick down right. Hold it until the tank starts. Clarks start instantly, IBU & Elmod take a second or two.
Before ever installing a new board check that every wire in the tank, every soldered joint, has heatshrink on it. Never simply twist wires together, if one comes loose it will touch something, cause a short, and magic smoke.
If testing polarity etc, use block connectors, then when you know which way the wiring needs to go, solder and heatshrink them.
Don't forget to leave enough slack in all of the wires coming out of the turret. When the turret rotates it will pull on the loom. If anything pulls apart and drops down onto the board, it is potentially magic smoke time.
Check that the board is mounted securely using standoffs and that the underside of the board does not have any loose screws trapped underneath, and that no wires or any part of the board is in contact with any metal parts of a hull or suspension, or any bare wires. Anything metal touching the board even briefly will cause magic smoke. Never glue a board down. If you ever need to remove it you will destroy it.
Check the on/off switch with a magnifying glass to ensure that there is no chance of two terminals touching where the wires are soldered on (stray wires strands are hard to see). Heng Long switches are notorious for having badly soldered switches, and can be destroyed in seconds if wires are soldered on with too much heat.
Just as a note, Planet no longer make the T5, when current stocks of tx's and rx's are gone, there will be no more. Some dealers are already racking up the prices of the rx's as they will be impossible to obtain once stocks are gone.

Hello Wibbly, This is all sound good advice, thanks. Did all of this before trying to start her up.
Now have the recvr locked with the transmitter.
Checked SD again.. root file is correct. Checked all the recvr leads. Redid the #8 switch and toggles. Have complete turret and track movements. Light and smoke switch on! But, NO SOUNDs AT ALL !
Task continues.........

Re: IBU2 install
No sounds
Sd card not inserted correctly, corrupt or error on setup file.
Volume or speaker wiring unplugged or damaged.
Note the IBU plays a small sound at power on to verify the above is working.
