New Sherman nut

Hi guys, I'm Mark from Pontypridd and a long time modeller, but new to 1/16th R/C. My 'apprenticeship' started in 1973 with static 1/35th models, but over the years, its the M4 Sherman variants that takes all the prizes for me . I started out with 1/16th R/C last year when the wife surprised me with a Heng Long M4 105mm for Xmas which is pretty standard with olive/black camo and plenty of stowage. Then came a Tiger 1 and another M4 105mm for my brother.

I'm now hooked with 1/16th R/C and was directed here by Dave/Forgebear as I'm up to my eyes with a Mato/Heng Long Firefly conversion which I need help with. I also have designs on more M4 variants (or even an M3 Grant) in the future, so what better than joining the forum.

I'm an experienced modeller, but its the electrics that are going to be the learning curve for me. I look forward to learning more about 1/16th R/C here.

Welcome to the site Mark,

You'll find plenty of help on here with your projects, it's nice to come across another valley's member, I'm only about 10 miles up the road from you in Merthyr, I got into the hobby a while back in pretty much the same way that you did, started off years ago modelling 1/35 dioramas and ended up buying a sherman, never looked back and really enjoying the rc stuff

Hi lads, thanks for the welcome. Dave did say that Frank is the man, so I hope to learn a bit more about where the recent burning smell came from on my Firefly project! Frank, your castings are great

I'm going to have a look around on the forum as its a very different place from my other forum(bottle digging)and I hope to gain the information I need for current and future projects. I will post up the whole project soon, so bear with me as this week is manic for me.

Lee, I hope not to haunt you for spares in the future butty, but I do tend to be a bit too focused when on a mission I'm originally from Neath but I'm now in Cilfynydd.

Like said, this can be an expensive hobby, so steady as she goes for me or the wife will be asking questions! I can complete other models, but crewing the Sherman has to have been a test of courage back in WW2, yet men were still sent into battle knowing they were going to get a kicking; what bravery, and for that, the M4 variants and the crew will always be a favourite of mine.
