The sun was shining, and we all had a great day out. The scenery is coming along nicely, and somehow I yet again end up with tanks I don't own on my ******* workbench!!

OK guys, promise not to laugh. This is my reworking of the small hill cutting. Please let me know what you think. The PVA still needs to dry, so the green areas will be a little darker, however, I chose not to put a base brown coat on, as I decided it was basically a rocky outcrop, with little soil. I am studying up on how to do the road.

Already a vast improvement, there is some nice work going on there. A cheap way to do roads is to liberally brush on PVA, and then sprinkle sifted earth all over it, and then soak it in more PVA. When it dries it is a grippy, hard as nails, natural looking dirt track. As an added bonus, while it is damp, push a length of old tracks into it (or push clean tracks onto a sheet of clingfilm) and it will leave a permanent impression in the roadway.

If I ever find the time, I'll have a go at those whizzy trees that you came up with.

Good idea for the road. Just one small problem - my garden only has clay, which is either like mud or concrete, depending on whether it's wet or dry. Can you use sand as an alternative or is it too gritty?

I have the same problem where I live now, all Cotswold stone chippings and tarmac.

Sand would do it but might be a bit too uniform. I will keep my eye out for a pile of topsoil, or we could buy a small bag out of the funds, I guess peat would do the same job, or even ground up cat litter?

I'm sure I can find something suitable. Possibly if I dry out the clay and give it a good pounding, then mix in a small amount of sand. Getting more like a gardening forum ;D
