There we go, one completed, painted and weathered Merit 1/16 Flak 88. Decals yet to be applied, and things like the lights to be painted in, but pretty much done. Need to figure out a diorama to mount it all in now.

Looks a lot better than my ready built one. I have an idea for a diorama which it might be useful to discuss before any action is taken. Could possibly use both guns.

If you are able to build a diorama using both guns that would be excellent, I haven't got any materials here that I can make one out of at the moment. I also have an IR circuit board that can be attached to a gun, that will randomly, so I have been told, fire an IR beam across the battlefield.

Having finished the painting, I finished off another little project I had on the shelf, just need to figure out how to rig up an MP3 player to a microswitch so that when a tank runs over it the lights and the sound activate. Will have to apply some grey matter to that little problem. ???

In case anyone looks here instead of the Events/Days Out thread. Our next meet is Sunday 17th April. Doors open 10am, plenty of parking right outside of the door, tea/coffee, heating, trestles and chairs all provided.

Our scenery stock is slowly expanding, so the more the merrier!

This is my small contribution to the scenery. I would point out that the tree is a trifle under-scale, having been originally being intended for an O Gauge railway. Hopefully, it won't look too out of place.

The diorama is going to be a sandbagged anti-tank emplacement. I'm gradually assembling the bits and piece. Having fanciful ideas, I was wondering whether it was feasible to fit some limited r/c to the guns. I did find a video on YouTube, with a gun that could traverse and "shoot". It looked like it was fitted with an IR Apple.

Blooming heck, straight off the bat and you have put us all to shame! Excellent work there.

As far as IR goes, as far as I am aware the only way to get IR into an artillery gun is via a tank board, however, TK may have some info on this as I think he is bringing something along on Sunday that does exactly what you describe, but as I haven't seen it I haven't got a clue what it is or how it works.

My hobby room is currently being redecorated which will take a few days, so all tank related builds are on a back burner until that is completed. :/

See you Sunday.

Hi If you want to make a field gun fire IR you can use one of these http://mitosal.com/Electronics.html miniact
Make sure you get the right one , one of them only hits Tamiya (but it kills them in two shots) all you have to do is sort out a trigger slow moving motor for auto fire or timer or you can use radio an receiver . They can be fitted with a apple so you can kill them or they work without apple so they are there all the time. the choice is yours . You could even make up battlefield triggers sensors or pressure activated.

I have found the YouTube video of the Flak 36 in action.

Being hypercritical, the traverse looks a bit too fast and a touch jerky.

The Merit flak 88 is 1/18 not 1/16, I think I quoted the wrong scale somewhere. The 21st century one is more detailed I reckon, and more robust. It will be interesting to see what we have got on Sunday.
