Taigen Panther front wheel height?

Post by tao »

The front wheel looks a bit low? Will adjusting torsion bars help this?

I had a look at the henglong and Tamiya panther and the drive sprocket looks slightly too low, but id imagine gearboxes clearance makes this necessary.

May have just bodged a quick fix that looks a bit better, too ashamed to say what I've done! Think it looks "closer" :/

Hi Tao

It's not pretty, and I will probably cut a proper plate and make the chassis openings bigger, and put bearings in, but just got now...in fact you could get it higher if you open up the chassis openings, but I thought it looked right, it's 2mm plasticard strips spacing up the gear boxes, and just some longer screw to sandwich it together, also I elongated the screw holes in the gearboxes to bring boxes about 2mm forward towards the front bulkhead, like I say a bit of a bodge job!

Nice job! Looks like just a simple gearbox shim up will do the trick. As for the bearings I asked Dom at RC tank he said they aren't that necessary..I see that the weight is small and that gearbox shaft is big and as long as the gearbox is bolted down at these slow speeds I see no reason for those personally.

Hi Tao

Glad about the bearings! Was thinking I'd have to move the front plate attachment point holes and bolts to fit the dam things! I must admit I cut out a better shim last night for it and glued it to the plate, it has really qietenend up the gearboxes, What a fluke!
the other thing I noticed is the metal mantlet is about 1mm bigger all around, the chin fouls the hatches at the gun at 4 o'clock position, but the plastic one doesn't, might try and grind it back, or just use the plastic one!

Good modification- just did it- though I needed to open the axle hole up a bit for clearance. But that little lift does get the front wheels looking proper! Thanks :)
