New Panzer III build
Re: New Panzer III build
Thats the exact AA's i use, the 1300 & 2500mah duracells. Love that exhaust, its looking really good. I've actually been thinking about getting pipe bending gear to help with my exhaust pipes. You've done well getting the stock smoker to perform like that. I'm kind of on a noise reduction quest for my Pz3, a TARR mk1 and brass asiatams play an important role in that. Took the gears apart today looking for any burs and manufacturing quirks that might need smoothing out. Ran my breaking in process on re-assembly and think i'm now happy that its running as smooth as it can. There is an issue with motor buzz on initial throttle that i'll need to sort out but its been a great build so far.
Started looking for STUG metal hulls Ha!

The Stug uses the exact same lower hull. I find that convenient. The only thing I don't like about fan type smokers is that you lose the pulsating effect you get from a piston unit. For me that's a big part of the effect. Someday i'll screw up the nerve to try an acoustic smoker.

Yip it does, very convenient that, got to admit I like the pulsing effect of the piston smokers, like most tankers probably my introduction to smokers was little HL units, and the fascination grew from there.
Yeah I've saw a few acoustic smokers in action and I like their party trick of getting the timing of the "throttle response" just right. Even the best proportional fan assisted is slightly of with the timing of the revs. To our eyes the acoustic smokers seem in perfect harmony with the engine sounds.
I don't think their complex things to put together, it's maybe just understanding the physics that's the initial hurdle

Re: New Panzer III build
Well, we have an advantage if we try acoustic smokers, and that is Stormin' Normand. He's the king of smoke and he's always willing to share his methods. Very good guy, and when I get up the nerve to try building one I'm sure it will involve a lot of messages to Norm.
Oh yeah, the way they work is pretty easy, and also explains why the timing is so spot on - the smoke unit has no fan or piston, it's just the sound waves from the speaker that push the smoke out. As we've seen, it works very well.

Re: New Panzer III build
Well the rest of the components arrived today to enable me to complete the bulk of my build

^^^The completely solid Mato Pz3 upper, with more functioning hatches than you can shake a stick at!
Now i'm wrestling with how best to paint it, or if to paint it

Re: New Panzer III build
no problem anytime bud
Re: New Panzer III build
I left my Mato all metal PzIII bare and just added some markings. It's the only completely metal tank I have and I like showing that off. Once you paint them you can't really tell if it's plastic or metal underneath the paint.
