Panzer III Suspension

Post by Rad_Schuhart »

Hi everyone. I have a problem with my suspension. The picture speaks itself:

I have replaced the plastic arms for a metal ones and I put new plastic wheels. Now the arms are OK but the wheels are wearing again. What do you recommend me to do? Do I buy metal road wheels? Do I install bushings or bearings (I dont know how, can somedoby do it for me, or give me some tips?)

Thanks!

Try brass tubing as a bushing. Glue it to the wheel so it does not rotate relative to it.

You will need to expriment with diameters and you may need to slip one brass tube into another to take up any play.

Use a hobby tube cutter like one made by K&S to cut the brass tubing.

You can try a local hobby shop or craft store. K&S is a common supplier here in the states. Ebay and Amazon are also good sources. Do a search for K&S tubing. This company also sells aluminum, and steel, but one is to soft and the latter is tough to cut. Brass seems to be a good middle ground.

Attached is a picture of the steel wheels for my Taigen Sherman. Notice the use of brass bushings. That's the pile on the left. You will mimck the same setup. Measure the shaft's diameter and the wheel hole diameter. These measurements will represent the inner and outer diameter of the bushing respectively. Now look for similar sized tubes. You will more than likely need two or three different sizes. You will slip these different sized tubes into each other to get close to the correct inner and outer diameters built up.

Thanks for your help and your links, guys. Ill try to do it as you say.

For me the best part of rc tanking is trying to fix the things I break, lol, so it seems I need to spend some hours there :D
