Tiger 221

Post by Ex_Pat_Tanker »

Wow, my first build thread... better not screw this one up :o

Well, I did - forgot to cut the space in the zimm for the unit insigna!

Ok, so for our 101st sSS Abt group build I'll be doing 221. For this I will be using the following 'ingredients'
Matorro Tiger Upper Hull and turret
Asiatam Lower hull
Asiatam 3-1 gearboxes (not in pic)
Mato steel road wheels
Mato Tracks and drive sprockets
Asiatam cast coupola and turret vents
Spektrum radio.

And some stuff I haven't got hold of yet:
El-Mod
Late pattern idler wheels.

First job: strip the matorro down and dump the chassis. Remove the airfilters from the rear panel.
Next up: Shorten the axles and grind down the splines so that they fit the swing arms of the asiatam hull.
I tried buying a set of replacement arms, but I didn't realise that there were 2 types and I had the bought the wrong (shorter) version... Even if you get the set that's meant to used with the HL wheels, you will probably find that you'll need to cut them down as the metal inner wheels need slightly shorter axles than the outers ???

Next job: Notch the front of the hull above the towing eyes.

Thanks guys!
I was going to try to thicken up the turret roof a little - but I decided that would probably end in tears...
Tomorrow, its on to the upper hull - single central headlight, new air intake and fibre optic insert for the hull MG
"Tune in next time, folks..."

Hi Tony,
Yep, she's the chosen one!
Mike B's talking about a Pz4 to go with his Tiger, so I might have to get my Pz4 done and shipped home also, either that or the Sturmpanzer 4? - ones going to survive shipping a little bit better, the other is going to be easier to complete ??? Things are starting to look up here workwise, so I'm feeling more confident about doing expensive stuff like El-Mod electronics and getting tanks shipped home.

So, how well does the Matorro upper hull mate up with the Asiatam lower?
