No one else I think has ever reported a problem with the 2.4 system I think, but mine quite working correctly in my Abrams much as you describe yours, within two hours of indoor running. A new receiver fixed it.
After trying all the good advise being given to trouble shoot it, if none of it finds your problem you might consider the receiver is faulty.
