Internal Hull Bracing, Question

Post by BarryC »

I have noticed in several build threads that some have installed a cross brace between the hull sides. I am upgrading and detailing a HL M1A2.

Is this necessary or specific to certain tanks or manufactures?

Is it recommended regardless?

TIA,
Barry

Specific to tank and manufacture . So a Taigen tiger needs a brace to support the sponsons but a tamiya doesn't

In terms of HL, I found the early modern (ZTZ) flexes quite a bit, but they seem to have gotten their act together on the Leo. In the ZTZ, if you pick up the tank from one corner, you can feel the lower hull twist under the force, but I didn't find that with the Leo. Having said that I have replace the lower with the all metal ones from DKLM, but it was mostly because I am a metal hull and not because the hull needed it. The M1 came after the Leo, so I would imagine it would be similar.

This with both metal roadwheels and metal tracks which adds quite a bit of weight to the lower hull.
