Youtube- RC Tank action Oscars..

Post by 43rdRecceReg »

Yep, it's that time of year again in the backslapping, self-congratulatory, faux tear- stained, with the"..and I owe it all to.." moments.. in the world of the BAFTAs, and the 'Whitey" Oscars. Anyone care to nominate a Youtube video for an RC Tank Oscar? :lolno: We have diverse possibilities: - Best Action Oscar category; Best Construction tip category; Best unintentionally comical category etc....'Dumbest video presenter category' etc.. :P   :lolno:
Anyway, I thought I'd start the ball rolling with this little piece....I like the camera angles, and editing, even if the tanks look a bit naff and cheapo ;)

That's pretty cool, Roy, but wait til next year's Oscars. I'll (hopefully) know how to edit by June and if that happens I'll be making some very cool videos this summer. :) I'm almost tempted to post one of my ride-along videos this year, but they don't have all the cool effects of the video you posted.

If you have a "Best Ride Along" category (or best outtake?) I nominate this, tentatively titled "A Fly Hitches A Ride". At least until the cannon fires! :)

:problem: Ah, yes The video charmed me; an entertaining wee rib-tickler..and that's the reason I chose it; but it's none of my own handiwork..I wish it were!! I've bought a special mount for my iPhone 6 and that should allow me to film in HD with
120 and 240 fps slo-mo...but that's for the future. I did see a clip where someone used a gimbal on a rail to run alongside an RC Tiger 1, and the effects (as well as the soundtrack) were really quite a pro job. Problem is, I forgot to bookmark the link
for Youtube...and no matter what search terms I use, I can't track it down again. Damn! I'd almost submit to hypnosis; to regression therapy, and find that clip again...but it's like finding a grain of sand in the Sahara right now :'(

Your videos are already pretty good, Gary..and that 'dang' enthusiasm just busts out of the screen. The ground level angles, the shot of the tank passing over the camera (positioned in a trench), aerial clips, slo-mo explosions and all the stock tricks and devices used by pros
will come before long. Seems to me, part of the fun in building these wee monsters is to get them to simulate real action, in miniature (on film)....or, on a Cecil B. De Mille scale, if you happen to have 1/4 or 1/6 scale tanks.

Nominated in the "Sound effects' category.. and I do like the Commander's eye view. That needs to be cut, and mixed, with short clips of the camera looking at the 'Commander'.. A camera mounted on the barrel (Moby gorilla gripper would sort that)
looking rearwards would achieve that.. bags of potential there. But don't overlook the fanatical spectators, and the compulsory 'Hitler Grusse' in respect of the tanks imposing SS presence...

Have a vague inkling that this video here has been linked to before, probably by the General; but...and even though there's not a single tank in sight...it's worth watching for the edits, visual effects, and the interplay of a team of RC operators..some displaying almost superhuman control skills. Ok, tanks..like pigs..don't fly, :/ ..Hmm.,.. well there were 'Flying Tigers" in WW2, but not the tracked variety. Anyway, there are some tasteful production ideas here:-

Here's a german made video featuring none other than the 'British Sherman Firefly".. But I really like the monochrome/ sepia tones; the impressive progressive rates of movement of turret, tracks..in fact all the tank bits, but above all , I like the slightly eerie lighting. The camera angles are great, with plenty of depth of field..and none of that 'Noddy and Big Ears, or Legoland diorama. Nah, the background looks pretty authentic. All in all, I wish I"d made it..and I'd also like to get my hands on that tank too..
