Help/Advice Appreciated:- RE- Planning 1/8th Tank Purchase?

Hello Fellow Members,
Must admit the last few days have being both stressing & and also a wake up call?
I was getting no where fast with my continuing desire to run a First~Class RC tank
I have gone from 1/8 & 1/6 down to 1/16 and back again

I have tried as hard as anyone to get a feel for the hobby of RC tanks,but just as I felt I was moving forward I ended up going backwards.I was kindly told by well meaning folk to go for something more affordable and manageable IE 1/16th Tamiya e.t.c.

It was then pointed out to me,with a great deal of truth, that it was obvious my heart was not in the smaller tanks and in turn would offer me little excitement,and that if I could not manage (somehow) to buy a 1/8th scale tank at least I should not put myself through the mill,and forget it, and I agreed.

So after a lot of very deep contemplation,looking at all the Pros & Cons ,I have arrived at what I hope is a solid plan to buy a 1/8th Tank I am due for a major back payment from the UK Government and my dear wife as agreed that I should use the money to fulfill this dream.

So that decided I thought I would spend the next few month putting together a realistic plan in great detail
As i will require the tank Ready To Run or at the least built for me,with all the upgrades/Modifications felt appropriate.

Suppose I would benefit from the over arching support and guidance from someone who is both trustworthy and well respected in the hobby, advising me on appropriate upgrades/improvements?

Anyway that's the plan anyway

any help will be really appreciated,I have a history of making very expensive mistakes

OK, I've been through this once already, but I think you'll be much happier with 1/6 and you'll find a lot more accessories and parts available. 1/6 is just a much more common scale (not that either are all that common, but relatively speaking ... )

But I still think you should have picked up the 1/16 Tiger that Tom offered you. That's an absolutely gorgeous tank and completely ready for any IR battlefield.

Oh yeah, just so you aren't confused, my screen name on the other forum you posted in is Crius.

I think a lot of guys may have seen that first thread on the other forum and that's why you're not getting replies here. The first time those guys went out of their way to be helpful but then you bailed on the scale. Not that I care (that's why I don't mind posting in this one), it's your money and you need to do what makes you happy, but I can see where some may be a tad frustrated.

I not into large scale its just to heavy and big for me, 80 -120 KG's.
But saying that, I have attended and exhibited my 1/16 tanks at a few shows now and met a quite a few 1/6 scale tankers. You have a good selection to chose from. A couple of my contacts have tanks from Mark 1 armour at 1/6 scale (one has a King tiger and the other a M26) both are very happy with them and also having met the supplier/Builder myself I can say he seems a very friendly and helpful bloke. I hope you have deep pockets the King Tiger was £5000 plus with all the extra's but I have to admit it sounded and looked a million dollars.

Hawkeye, from what I've seen 5,000 pounds is pretty much "entry level" for 1/6 scale. But that won't stop me from building at least one before I kick the old bucket!

I think you not only need deep pocket, you also need a large garage to store those tanks like the way you park your cars, and a big truck to carry them around, at least a SUV or a pickup truck!

Firstly many thanks indeed for your feedback and advice all very much appreciated.
I hear what some of you are saying but if i be very honest 1/16th leaves me underwhelmed no matter how good they are
and I would be compromising to much.Ok you could be right in your comments,and I may regret it, but I doubt it
I watch a Video of 1/6 or 1/8 and filled with excitement watch video of 1/16 just leaves me cold I know Toms tank was good like wise the custom guy,but I did take the point he was modding only heng long tanks mainly and asking a whopping price for 1/16.but i have not seen anything as good in the weathering painting dept (as yet)they look ultra realistic.

I am going for 1/8 and even with bells and whistles they dont cost as much as some of you think the Mark 1=
1/8 scale Tiger 1

33” long by 18” wide by 14” tall, 44” long with gun up to 35kgs.

Prices from £1950. I know their are extras to pay but to still worth it

Storage my wife's family are building me a purpose built shed.

of course I am grateful ,but surely we are all allowed to change our minds and it was some of the same people who helped me come to my decision not to go 1/16th as I have explained,Just because you think I should have gone 1/16 does not mean it is set in stone.

I really don't care what you do, Steve, all I was saying is that a lot of guys at that other forum went out of their way to be helpful and then you bailed on the scale. Of course that's your right, but I can see why some of the guys would wash their hands of this. I wasn't one of them. At least up til now.

Message to all members who have kindly replied to my original thread
it appears the fact I changed my mind,may have resulted in fellow members to be put out in some way,because I had the cheek to have a change of mind and decided to go back to my original idea of Looking at 1/6 & 1/8 RC Tanks over 1/16
without any equivocation I offer my apologies to anyone who is either annoyed or angered by my decision?
I am very grateful indeed for any and all help and hope fellow members will still wish to help and advice me.
