Paint colour

Post by Simon M »

Here's one for ya, I'm doing the first of my Heng Long Challys as a BATUS one so leaving the colour as is, seems to be OK, I'm looking for a paint match or something very close, my nearest stockist only does Humbrol & I've got all the desert colours from them & Revell, not looked at those yet, can anyone suggest another brand?

Mig Ammo has a range of British desert colours, as does AK Interactive. There's also Vallejo and Tamiya. Getting a match may not be easy as Mig and AK do scale colours i.e. are lighter than their real world counterparts and Tamiya and Vallejo don't always name colours in a similar fashion to the real world counterparts.

I'd have a look on a forum like Armorama as this is the sort of thing that gets discussed a great deal.

Cheers, I've done scale armour modelling for more years than I care to remember, hence the amount of paint lol, not expecting an exact match but something close, once it's been weathered it won't matter to much, I'm just a fussy sod :-) I'll have a look at AK

If you go here http://www.paint4models.com and just launch the chart (don't download it because that's not interactive) you'll be able to match your Humbrol color to almost any other brand. This is the very best conversion chart that I've been able to find and it's pretty good. It has all the FSN, RLM and RAL numbers, too.
