M1A1 Thunder Run: Finishing Turret Upgrades
Re: M1A1 Thunder Run: Adding Texture
Barry,
Good reference point. I would say 220 to 180. I haven't yet seen it under paint, but it looks as rough as some of the reference photos I have, and you can control the roughness to some extent by building it up with multiple layers. It is definitely rougher than what I would add in 1/35.
Cheers, Tom

Keep up the good work!

Re: M1A1 Thunder Run: Adding Texture
Barry,
Thanks. While not as precise as stippling with a brush, it's a LOT quicker, and you can vary the application by spraying from different directions/angles. I'm working on the doghouse and 7.62mm ring mount now. Pics soon!

Re: M1A1 Thunder Run: Update 31/1
Pretty busy this week, but I did get the Challenger 2! Also managed to get a little work done on the top of the turret. I didn't like how thick the 7.62 mm ring mount was, so I scratchbuilt a thinner one and modified the attachment to slide on the ring. Also started on the loaders hatch, and added the front pane to the TC cupola using flourescent green acrylic. I'm pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. Sorry I didn't clean the top of the turret before the picks!

Re: M1A1 Thunder Run: Cupola Complete
Big update: I've added the jerrycan rack, finished the cupola with optics, corrected and added the 50 cal sight (located underneath the gun) added most of the other details to the turret, and started painting the CARC sand color. I'm still going to reposition and detail the smoke grenade launchers, then paint the turret. Making progress!

Very nice! with all of those details, you have to do something with the tow cables. They look like they're just suspended on the turret magically...no brackets or anything. I like the translucent vision blocks. What did you use to do those?
Re: M1A1 Thunder Run: Cupola Complete
Philipat,
I agree. I've been working my way from the top down, and eventually will get to those cables. I have a few more details to add to the loaders hatch, and work on the grenade launchers first. I used flourescent green acrylic and rectangles cut from a dark red gift ribbon.
Thanks, Tom
