jack, my two cents from when I did mine a while ago. It was inspired by a local club member who actually scratch built a servo based steering for the whole front end. I didn't have the skill and didn't bother, just left it as is, and initially had also use Taigen 2.4Ghz to simply drive the tracks as a tank. What I find is that in most cases, when the track starts to turn, the front wheels will follow anyway if you leave it "loose", so I was quite happy with it. Like you said, there is no way this thing will turn in any meaningful way if you just use front steer only.

I also got the Asiatam tracks, but I didn't put in the rubber pads as it will make it too high for the front end which I didn't change at all. I managed to retain all the wheels (sprockets, idlers and road wheels) and I didn't put in a working suspension. I just literally cut out an opening for the gearbox and the drive shaft and kept the rest intact.

Good luck with your build. Its coming along nicely !

Michael, I tried the pads but they were too tall so I cut them off. I had considered just letting the front wheels float so they'd turn when the tracks would turn it but that won't work in reverse, kinda like shopping cart front wheels.

Both! :D. The electronics are out of a Taigen tank, now true I could have just used 1 motor supply to run 1 motor however looking at how the truck is made with such long tracks and hardly any room between them and the steering axle I thought the truck wouldn't steer worth a damn other then very broad turns. So to fix that problem a dual gearbox setup seemed to be the easiest way to fix that. For broad turns I'll steer it using just the front tires but for a sharper turn I'll steer the front tires and slow down or stop the inside track thereby allowing it to turn sharply. The dual gearbox will work just like it would in a tank and I plan to modify a servo to be wired into the turrets rotation control, this way back and forth and track steering will be done just like a Taigen tank with the right stick of the controller and the front tires steering will be done with the left stick instead if a turret.

Again, thoughts are most welcome.
Cool ...kind of like a 4wd rc car with articulated steering
