hi emajay
1st things 1st, fix the faults, then you can paint it etc, depending on the camo scheme you choose, get the required colours, you dont need to rub the tank down 1st. you can prime the tank if you want, some do some dont, if youre doing the 3 colour camo yellow, green, red/brown, paint the whole tank 1st with the yellow (the basecoat) then you paint the other colours on as required, as for battle damage, see here http://www.rctankwarfare.com/Forums/ind ... w.html#new dont forget dont rush things, and take youre time, rome wasnt built in a day

no worries mate youre not stupid, we all have to start somewhere, i use humbrol enamels, because they are what i know, others use tamiya or valleljo acrylics, but they are best used in a airbrush, ive found over the years humbrol enamels are good for hand painting, most of which you can find on ebay or most good model shops

Try this page for paint jobs:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~wackywheelz/tigers/
And this site for paint matches:
http://www.miniatures.de/colour-ral-farben.html

I'd recommend a coat of halfords red oxide spray primer before painting, in my experience you get a better surface for your paints to stick to and it will take fewer coats to achive a decent finish.
hope this helps,
Mart
