I was installing a metal gearbox in the Matorro KT for a customer and I always raise the gearbox some but on this one I raised it a little too far,, the standoffs I used in the front were just a little to big! Well the customer did not want to cut the skirts off so instead of re-working this I thought I would do some testing with it! I built the customer another one. This tank now takes all the links that they give you in the metal upgrade kit for Matorro, it is a little to sloppy! But if you are familiar with the Matorro tracks you cannot remove just one link you have to remove two because of their design! In the long run this tank will need a rear tensioner setup, and I have been wanting to try the one that they sell at tankzone anyway, or else try to fit the Tiger 1 pair in there, so this will be my test tank for new ideas! It drives Ok though probably more realistic to how the real tank drove!

Hi Phil any chance of some pictures/measurements and what type of gearbox you have used on your your Matorro gearbox swap as I have bought a KT. HL electronics are installed and working well. But I can see the front drive wheels need raising a little so any pictures, hint's or tip's would be very welcome. If you are thinking of installing the HL Tiger 1 adjusters it's a fair bit of work as the idler is to far out so the track won't line up and you will need to reposition the flat on the shaft as the idler is to low, and to get mine in I have had to do a little chopping. I know this as I am in the painfull process of doing this on my KT. I will post some pictures so you can see where I am so far. Looking at the KT some sort of metal support will be needed on the rear end to beef up the weak plastic sides. Once again any thoughts/pictures would be a big help. Any question's you have feel free to ask away. All the best for now

Hello Alan,
I use the heng long Pershing/Bulldog metal gearbox, and they fit very well! On my KT I used the Impact TU and they fit great, I had got mine from Willy and he reworked them so they are great! Ok back to the Heng long metal gearbox, it fits with the two motors almost back to back on each other, centered in the front chassis. This gives you the same width as the stock Matorro shaft. Below are some good pictures of different KT installs and how I set the gearboxes in the chassis. You can use a metal plate, but it is not an absolute especially if you can find some good standoffs and a good plastic fusion or welder they hold fine! When you go to raising it that is fairly easy, just make sure you don't go too high if you want to leave the front skirts and you can use the old Matorro setup to make markings!
Thanks for the pictures on adding the T-1 rear tensioners, the way you did it is pretty clever, and I can see the limitations! I will probably hold out and pay top dallor from tank zone and if they work right then hopefully it will be worth it!

Thank you for the pictures Phil. Just one more question though. What metal drive/idler wheels are you running on your KT Matorro or Tamiya ?. All the best for now

They are Matorro, same specs as Tamiya because on mine where I use the Impact TU the sprockets are Tamiya but the tracks are Matorro, and all of the other tanks that I have done I have used complete Matorro upgrade kits!
