Lipo question

How do you get the lipos from over discharging using a standard RX-18 set up?

The standard Lopo low voltage alarm most use with lipos will work just fine. However if you haven't heard of these it might be an idea to read one of the many guides online to familiarise yourself with this battery type.

You need to either get a low voltage alarm (which you may or may not hear) or set a timer and pay attention.

There may be aftermarket low voltage cut offs, I'm not sure how or if they work with a RX-18.

Personally, I only use lipos when absolutely necessary (usually for size constraints) with surface vehicles and then strictly follow the timer on the Tx. I have to on my Kubel, Schwimm and Kettenkrad, but they don't battle so it's easy to figure out.

For battling, I just slap a 4200 mAh NiMH in the tank and never look back.

Thanks!..on my RC excavator is shuts off auto to protect the battery I'd rather use Nimh if I can fit it in this Taigen Panther..fitting TARR and FRS-7 or 8 so looking to put battery on side panel or across the back by removing lock mechanism. But if need Lipo will just set a timer.

What control board are you using? Most have low voltage cut offs

I use these and I've never missed hearing one. Not only that, I can personally vouch for their ability to make you get out of bed in the middle of the freakin' night.

I never put a lipo in a tank without one of these. The IBU has voltage protection and I still use the low voltage alarm.

Those alarms cost literally nothing! A wise investment.

I doubt you'll never not hear it. I can hear the ones I have 300m away, clear as day.

Exactly. They're under $3 each and it's just really cheap insurance to make sure you don't scrap a lipo. And "loud" doesn't even begin to describe the screeching racket these little beauties can make.

If I can hear them in my boats 100m away on the pond should be fine in a tank!
