ME?...I'm wondering why there are two Jake 79s on the board....

Not that there's anything wrong with it...but couldn't the second guy use 78 ............

xylene will remove anything down to the plastic including epoxy paints and even some glues. Wear gloves, try not to breath the fumes and work fast to remove the paint as it loosens up very quickly because if left on will start to melt the plastic underneath, Styrene very quickly and ABS within 30 seconds. Found it best to use a stiff short bristle brush (old toothbrushes work great) on small areas at a time and immediately flush with water.

Good stuff actually...on plastic you have to work fast...takes a few seconds then shoot it off with a water hose

Try apple cider vinegar. Don't laugh, it works. It's cheap, available at supermarkets and grocery stores, safe, easy to dispose of, and doesn't hurt plastic or rubber.

Submerge the parts in the vinegar and let soak for a couple of days. I've removed paint from everything from old model cars to old wind up metal submarines. When doing plastic I do check the parts on a daily basis.

Although this probably won't apply to RC tanks, it is a great rust remover as well. I've used it to clean out rusty motorcycle tanks with great results. Search apple cider vinegar on You Tube to see some videos.

Another good paint stripper for plastic is the cleaner Simple Green. Again, submerge the parts until the paint begins to peel off.

I have had good results with both agents, however I lean toward apple cider vinegar because it is very inexpensive.

Hey Thestig,Greengiant, thanks for the ideas, I never would of thought of apple cider vinegar and will give that a try if I have a go at this again, I bought the Dettol so fingers crossed hopefully this method works out... It's my first attempt at this, so I'll see how it go's..

Careful with the Xylene Jake...eat's plastic as well as glue pretty fast

Not sure if you saw my Gold Tank....that paint is special stuff...dries super fast ...it's like laying a layer of metal on the surface...it's good stuff but the only solvent that works with it is Xylene....Long story short...I reduced a batch to retard the drying time...well before you know it...some of the plastic grab handles and hooks started to droop ....Stopped immediately ....saved some of them...but some were too far gone and turned into puddles ...the ones that were saved had to be supported for three days till the Xylene completely evaporated ...I'm just glad the whole tank didn't collapse in on itself

I liked that model...the pictures didn't do it any justice ...you can't really see the Highlighting and fades I did...Think the white paint and the overhead lighting blushed them out
Still have to add the spare tracks...so maybe the photos will look better then
