Re: Tiger One Research Question
I think Sherman's used logs or even sandbags as extra armour, with tigers they could be used to get them out of mud or even ice as they were so heavy they easily sank

Re: Tiger One Research Question
If you happen to turn up a picture of a Tiger using the U ditching log to get unstuck, I will donate my next born child !!
Oh, now that would mean I'd have to have another one .........
As you were, I would be very grateful !!

Re: Tiger One Research Question
If I do find a picture I will, if you want to put logs on your tiger why not they probably did when moving them for fortifications etc .
Re: Tiger One Research Question
One of the first tigers captured was by the Russians was stuck in mud I think that's historically accurate. Perhaps they should have had some logs on the side . Laugh

Re: Tiger One Research Question
I saw this T34 this summer, in a Swiss Military Museum. At first, I though the log resembled a giant liquorice stick..the sort we used to eat as kids, then I realised that if it wasn't to supplement the crew's meagre rations, it must be for getting the tank out of the mud or, if stuck through the driver's aperture, a means of ramming the enemy when all the ammo had gone

Actually, Highlander, that log gets bound to the barrel, like an extension, the lowest ranking crew member sits on the log way out at the end, they elevate the barrel to lift him up and then he picks fruit from all those peach trees they have in Siberia. I thought you would have known that, Brother.
