Is this real? or a modellors Dream?

Post by hawkeye3guns »

Hi all
was shown this Photograph of a diorama. It looks WW 11. The tank really appeals to me as something really different, and looks a challenge to built and control. But the question ? is it real or a concept ,either way what a beauty it would be on the battle field and the challenge of getting both turrets to aim and fire independently
Any thoughts anyone.

There is a picture of one here - a russian design
https://www.quora.com/Why-dont-tanks-ha ... re-turrets
Apparently it is a T28 which was built between the wars
See also this info on the T100 experimental tank

T100.
USSR. 1939.
A soviet heavy tank design, the T100 was a multi turret prototype that was scrapped in favour of the KV1 heavy tank. It saw limited trial service in Finland during the Winter War.

It would make an interesting (and probably quite large) scratch build........

Thanks for the reply and help.
So it's a T100. Well at 58 tons and a top speed of 22mph that would put her up there with some of the faster heavy tanks at the start of the war. I can see her short comings as a tank (physical size and fire power limitations) but what an intresting project, both as a scratch build and the challenge of having the turrets aim and fire independent of each other, might have to buy a bigger radio? still might have to" have a go" in between other projects.

Yup...Sassgrunt has one in the works...it's a little under 40% done....the basic carriage being sorted....think he was in the stages of fabricating the turrets

The photograph is of the Soviet SMK tank, while the drawings are of the T-100. Both were prototype vehicles for the proposed KV-1 tank; tried in Finland; and neither was selected for production.

Yeah, like Alpha said, I have an SMK build on hold at the moment. Haven't gotten any farther than splicing two lower hulls together to get the length, (haven't even cleaned up the joint yet), and done some minor work to figure out the superstructure. I had a couple of KV-1 tanks that were being converted to other vehicles (KV-85 and Su-152) and I had bought the Asiatam chassis for these; so I had two leftover Heng Long chassis. I also have not figured out what to do about two separate turrets. I was thinking that if the both rotated together, then one barrel could house the LED flash, while the other contains the IR emitter.

Hi Denzil Looks like you will be after a couple of KV hulls . interesting model to build . If the Russians had this when the Germans invaded they would have been in for another shock , they couldn't kill the T34 or the KV with most of there tanks.

I must admit if I can find a couple of KV1 hulls that don't break the bank I'd like a crack at that one myself!  Alwyn

Hi Pete, My understanding is that the Soviet Army did have at least one of these in the field against Army Group North immediately before the siege of Leningrad when anything that could move was put into action,
It was a total failure,
I am trying to find my source of reference unless somebody else can confirm or yet again prove that my ability to talk out of my hindquarters is once more self evident. :lolno:

I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
