Can any one tell me has there been any problems with the new HL Stug III, with regards to the tracks, plastic or metal catching on the suspension mounts and causing wear ? Do the return rollers need to be moved/lifted to prevent this ? Or is it just being done for historical accuracy.
Cheers.

Re: HL STUG III R/ROLLER / SUSPENSION MOUNT QUESTION
I have the HL StuG III and I've fitted it with metal tracks and sprockets. No sign of any problems with tracks catching anything.

hi steiner
my daughters p3 has all metal suspension and tracks, and like chris there seems to be no problems, people re arrange the return rollers as youve guessed for historical accuracy

Re: HL STUG III R/ROLLER / SUSPENSION MOUNT QUESTION
Hi Steiner
I had problems with mine. I had problems with my PZ3 too......both turned out to be the same problem
I took off the tracks, turned the tank upside down, looking from the back of the tank towards the front, I lined up the wheels with my eyes, looked along the line of wheels and noticed that the rear sprocket was out of line. The Stug tracks were grinding away at the suspension as your one does, The PZ3 tracks jumped off the rear sprocket every time I turned right. Both were corrected when I removed the rear sprocket, filled the rear mount screw hole with filler...then re drilled when dry...then screwed the rear cog back on square to the body.
Both tanks also had another problem causing fouling on one track. The suspension arms were not tightened up enough so the arm was out of line a little bit. I just tightened the screw half a turn tighter...job done...no fouliing
I recon that when they make them they just whizz the screws in without taking care.
Send consultancy cheque at your leisure..........
Hope this helps Mike

Thanks for that info mike, but I have not as yet got a PZIII/Stug. I was just doing my homework prior to making any purchase.

Re: HL STUG III R/ROLLER / SUSPENSION MOUNT QUESTION
Hi Guys Ive Had a Panzer 3 for ages with metal everything if you like the tracks to sag a little they do rub on top of the suspension mounts so to cure this if you raise the return idlers to correct position its cured and you can have sagging tracks and they dont catch .For the amount to raise them see Gigantohawk(Nicks)post of the StugIII either here or on RCU.

Re: HL STUG III R/ROLLER / SUSPENSION MOUNT QUESTION
Hi Gents,
With regard to the R/Rollers. I got my inspiration from Panzerketten and on that basis I raised them to make the PZIII/StugIII look more like the real thing. Having said that, I never realised there was a problem with tracks rubbing on Damper mounts if left in their original HL positions.
All I can say in that respect is that it seems like a good "mod" for 2 things. 1, it makes the tank look better and 2, I'm told the tracks dont rub on damper mounts.
As Pete said there is a post on here that should help, if you want to do this mod. Pete and I spent ages discussing the amount of "offset" we would apply to the R/Rollers to make the tank look more scale. We also identified that the rear roller was too small in diameter amd I'm sure the pair of us will come out with a workable solution to this soon.
So, have a go with raising the R/Rollers. You wont be disappointed.
