The red ones are from Tank Army, and they also sell the black ones. The red ones are the same size as the Promax 480s, and the black ones are the same size as the Promax 400s. I have all 4 kinds. I don't run my tanks very hard, so I am sure I won't be able to feel the real difference, but in terms of power I would say the red ones are somewhere between the 400 and 480, but RPM wise it is definitely higher when you go full throttle, and it is WAY noiser than the 400s/480s, and not the good kind of noise.

I am certain the torque curve is also different, as the 400s/480s are much more gradual whereas the black/red ones are like 0-60 in warp time which is not ideal for tanks.

If I have a choice it would be Promax, but the red and black (and now the blue ones) are cheaper in general.

400 or 480's
Order them from here, I have ordered 2 sets on different occasions.
400 long cans are 480's and are $10 ea. You'll have to put pinions on them -swapped from your replace motors.

Ah I see. Thanks for the info Michael. So it seems that there is still some significant differences between the Tank Army red motors and the Promax 480s. Seems the performance differences are substantial enough to do an upgrade from the red motors.

So far I don't have a problem with the red motors, but your eval of the Promax 480s now have me wanting to really get a pair especially since I like running my tanks hard. I have the red ones in the M1 hooked to the IBU2.

I just got the metal Leo lower that comes with this gearset/motor. Our last meet was indoor so didn't have a chance to run it hard yet. DKLM might be a little cheaper:

Here is a picture of the inside, but the outside is nasty looking. My Leo old chassis was running Promax 400s and these were way more powerful.

Is this a 3:1 gearbox?
H/L Pantiger, H/L Leopard 2A6, Mato Panzer III, Hybrid Tiger 1 and some tank wreckage

I was never sure how to count them. I think you count the number of gears exchange minus one ? So if that's correct, this is 3:1.

Using 500 size motor should give more choices, custom windings etc. These are RC car size?

Do you mean the gearset ? They are designed to fit the Leo and other Heng Long chassis but as you can see it pretty well takes up the whole back end as there is no space between the gears anymore like the stock/upgrade open ones:
