Unfortunately all my tiger turrets are airsoft. I agree about the metal being too heavy. I plan to replace a couple of my metal turrets with plastic for just that reason. In some cases I also like the plastic hatches better, too. Strange, I was just thinking about doing a video on plastic vs. metal turrets. I was also thinking about a side by side TX video with all the ones I've amassed so far. You know, the kind of video where you hope you can help someone else avoid the mistakes you've made yourself. :)

Doing the zim yourself is quite an undertaking. Hats off to you, Sir. I'm sure you already know this, but finescale modeler has a bunch of good zim tutorials. I'm a subscriber so if you don't subscribe and are looking for info let me know and I'll see what I can dig up for you. Are you planning on going the single blade route or using some kind of roller? What are you planning to use for the putty? What would you think about getting together to make some kind of rolling zim tool? I think I have some perfect gears in brass and making them roll isn't a big deal, I just need someone to test the design. If you're interested I'll tell you what dimensions I need for the tool.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

The videos sound like a good idea :thumbup:
I got a set of these zim tools from Germany
Haven't tried them yet http://www.rctankhq.com/IMPERIA_MODELLB ... STAMPS.htm
I plan on using Aves epoxy sculpt, or maybe miliput.
A roller sounds like a neat idea!
I haven't attempted zimmerite before so it should be interesting 8O

Having tried and never properly succeeded in applying Zimmeritt I would like to know how late your Tiger 1 is going to be?
I ask because if it will be a late Tiger 1 then you should know that towards the end of the war Zimmeritt was discontinued,
The reason being by my understanding is that someone in the back office in Berlin realised that the only army in the European theatre of operations using magnetic mines against enemy armour was the German army? :{
