Those gearboxes look brilliant Pete! Very professional. Another engineering masterpiece! 

I too like to keep to a maximum cross-country speed for my tanks. Somewhere between 12-15mph scale speed is about right IMO and at that speed they look right and it gives them a certain 'gravitas'.

I think zooming about everywhere at scale road-speeds+  really makes the models look very toy-like. I also put servo-slows on the throttle channel in my tanks so they can't suddenly go from forward into reverse and vice-versa. Makes them drive much more realistically (although you have to be a bit more careful how you drive them!).

Hi Finaly finished the gearboxes Have fitted white cap motors may have to change but going to try them so here are the photos of finished gearboxes and gearcases (just seen some resin ones for sale on e-bay for £14 these ones are metal and took about 1 hour each to make that includes all the drilling and tapping) .

Hi Chris made them from photos sent me by Tony (tiger 205), they have a rule for scale so made a drawing and made the gearcase from 2mm aluminium the outter case first tried it to see if it looked right, then the inner 2mm smaller all round glued them together with superglue marked the big hole and drilled it then made a bush to fit the outer dia of the drive shaft and the hole press fit the bush in then pitched holes around the case drilled them 2,5mm,dont no if the number of hole is correct just spaced them so they looked right.Then spot marked the hole pattern onto the back plate drilled and tapped the hole 2,5mm ,the screws are from terminal blocks which are the closest I could find in the shed .Not only do they look right they also support the drive shaft ,if I can find bearings for the right dia for the shaft can modifie to hold the bearings ,should  think the bushes will last a long time if I cant find any bearings .Here are the photos Tony sent me .

That looks likes great work on your gearboxes Pete. I'm still struggling to work through all the different chapters on this forum and by and large I seem to miss what's going on here. I must admit, I wish this forum had a similar concept to the dreaded RCU. At least that way I would be able to follow builds more easily.
Is there any reason why we can't put all builds and general discussion into one area instead of categorising things so much.
Just a thought Gents. Let me know what you think.
Having said that,Pete , your work is amazing. Keep it up and I'll try to follow it.

Hi Guys thanks for the nice comments have now started the build on here for the Sherman going to try and make it a Firefly .Havnt got much done today the boss wanted to take me shopping didnt see any tanks for sale so waste of time me going .
