Wheels fitted. It went better and much quicker than expected. i really was expecting some difficulty, particularly with all those grub screws. I suppose that's one advantage of being short sighted. Take the glasses off, and it's amazing how close things stay in focus.

It's actually starting to look vaguely like a tank.

Next stage fitting the tracks. I have some weathered metal tracks, thanks to Ad Lav 8). That will be tomorrow's task.

Lots of thin layers is the key to painting with cans. Don't rush one big thick coat over to cover it.

I used 1 can of primer, 2 cans of green, 7 cans desert yellow on my Tamiya leopard!

Look forward to the tracks!

Must order parts for my Tiger!

Oops - sorry! :D

Depends on the paint used too - Tamiya or humbrol?

Halfords primer, then Tamiya top coats. I think I've just about got the hang of it now, but it goes against the grain to leave the base coat showing through. More self restraint is required.

My best friend paints classic cars for a living, Ferrari, jaguar etc and he said always starts left to right, then right to left. Pressure on the nozzle to stop once past the model/car.

Difficult to get thumb eye coordination on it sometimes but pays off.

Tamiya paints have great control, press a bit light :D

One trick that I use with the tamiya rattle cans is to place the can in a small tub of hot water for a few minutes to heat up the can and paint. It makes a huge difference when spraying the paint
Use thin coats and don't worry about the paint flashing off as the paint dries to a Matt finish anyway
I like to spray around the back edges/ around detail areas/ undersides first then spray the bigger flatter areas. Repeat a couple times and you will have a nice run free job :D

My Tiger has put on more than a little weight. Now tipping the scales at 3.4 kg. It makes a huge difference to the appearance now the tracks are on. It is actually starting to look like a tank.

Many thanks to everyone who has given me advice on painting with spray cans. I have managed to get an even finish on the turret!

Richard

P.S. In case you missed it, the Tiger with tracks fitted is the last post on the previous page.
