Shaun is absolutely right. First, do you want a tank you can upgrade and do the work yourself or do you want a tank that's ready to run right out of the box? If the former then the Abrams is a good choice, and I know it's been recommended on another thread already but I'll say it again - call Erik Edwards at Imex in Florida. Ask him if he has an Abrams left and if he does it's the best deal you'll get on that particular tank. If you want ready to run, again, call Erik and ask about the Sherman. It's a beast and ready to rock straight out of the box.

or any other seller suggestions... I would rather support local sellers or ones that support the forum
Again, call Erik. 1-800-458-5785 and ask for Erik Edwards, then tell him Gary in Detroit sent you.

I would echo many above. i bought a Heng Long Tiger for around £60 and a couple of weeks later bought a secondhand HL Tiger for £30. I have kept the secondhand tank stock and just played with it, great fun! It's given me an idea where I want to go with the hobby. The first tank I bought has spent most of it's life in bits as I have replaced almost everything on it. That for me has been the hobby. I have one last piece to be delivered from Forgebear and I think I have just about managed to put every accessory I can on it.

Buy a cheap Heng Long as Max-U52 suggests and then build up from there.

So far I have aquired three Heng Long Tigers, a whole heap of metal bits to go on one of them and fingers crossed a Challenger 2 (When/if it arrives!).

I would recommend that after you have used your HL tank for a while and if you decide to continue with the hobby, you invest in a decent battery charger and decent higher capacity spare battery.

That's my two pennies worth!

Hi Scott! I'm from San Diego too & like yourself, just getting into large scale tanks & in the future RC. I'm working on a static version of the 1/16 scale Tamiya Tiger I. You can check it out on the Tamiya build thread if you like. I go by panzer man on this site. Some of the answers your getting on your question will help me out as well when I decide to get a RC tank to play with. This is the best site to learn from in both building & operating tanks. I live in the National City area. What part of SD are you from?

HL is the place to start and their Sherman is a good runner, sturdy, inexpensive and if you decide to keep in the hobby a platform that can be used for detailing or modifying into different versions easily.

If you don't stay in the hobby a detailed one is small enough to sit as a display piece without taking up the space an Abrams would.

Just make sure you get the 2.4 version as the controller has the sound volume, and smoker on of switches on it.
