Modelling Plastic
Hi All,
I'm looking to organise my hull by putting plastic sections in. Any recommendations on what plastic sheeting to use??

Re: Modelling Plastic
I use plastic bits from a company called PLASTRUX that are sold at a local hobby shop, I'd think you should be able to order the same bits off line.

Re: Modelling Plastic
Morning, aust85
I've just received a pack of 'plasticard' (1.5mm x A4 size) also from Stationroadbaseboards.co.uk, as per Blimp above. That was after a lot of trawling on the net for trusted suppliers. I'd also add that the website has useful tips for beginners, like me, for instance.
Cheers

Re: Modelling Plastic
Station Road Baseboards are the supplier of choice for most. I always order A3 sheets in various thicknesses as it's cheaper that way.

Re: Modelling Plastic
Thanks for that guys
Would you say the 1.5mm stuff is best for doing a bit of construction or would you think something a bit thicker?

Re: Modelling Plastic
Hi again S.,
I've no expertise, yet, in plastic modelling; but loads of members on this site do-- some to the point of genius, I think (Chris Ludwig, in Germany comes to mind). I picked 1.5 mil to beef up the upper hull of my Tiger 1 project, which is labouring under the weight of a metal turret.
Also, generic Heng Long type tanks seem to be made of 1.5- 2.0 mil ABS in the main..so plasticard is a sort of match. I noticed that Wibblywobbly, above, buys in various thicknesses, and that's probably good advice, since certain structural parts such as the front glacis plate would have to be thicker than 1.5mm. There's plenty of advice to be absorbed here though....so, have a good root through the build sections here. I have, and felt humbled.

Re: Modelling Plastic
"S" I don't know how well fitted out your workshop/kitchen is for modelling tools but if you plan to work with "PLASTICARD" you will need besides your "Dremel" a set of modelling "FILES" (I use a "DRAPERS" 12 piece set, Part number 4884/12C) a "PIN VISE" an "Exacto Micro saw" and a straight edge, as well as a set of various size "Circles" and a "Marker " Pen.

Re: Modelling Plastic
I use Tamiya's PLA Plate because that's the most readily available sheets here. Comes in different thicknesses.
