Hello

I'm Craig, I live in Ayrshire on the southwest coast of Scotland. I have a Heng long tiger 1 and have a very deep interest in military history, but especially WW2 technology and especially tanks. The rummaging around to find extra space for a collection of books and models on the subject is always a challenge

I would like to improve my Heng long tiger but I am almost a complete novice when it comes to dismantling and customising RC tanks. It is something I would like to learn however as it ties in with the extremely interesting subject of tanks.

I have seen this forum with its pages and guides as well as the general topic section which looks a good place for someone like myself interested in tanks, so I took the plunge and joined

Hi CRAIG, Welcome to the Forum,
The bad point is there is nothing unique about a HENG LONG Tiger 1
The good point is that nearly everyone on the Forum has built at least one HENG LONG/TAIGEN/TORRO/TAMIYA Tiger 1 Whatever you want to know we have the answer.
Now a question for you? How accurate do you want your first Tank to be?
The HENG LONG/TAIGEN and TORRO Tiger 1s all come with built in mistakes, Apart from the wrong location of the Turret everything else is an easy fix,
Unless you plan to build one of the first 50 Tunisian Tigers,
They do take a fair bit more work and unlike most other Tigers there are very few parts available so you have to make your own!
Whatever else you do don't ever forget you are doing this for FUN.
There are no deadlines, there is nothing that goes wrong that is worth losing it for,
AND REMEMBER 24 hours of the day there is always someone on the Forum to ask if you need aid.
Finally I hope you are in a stable and loving relationship with your Bank Manager and a caring partner would be handy as well.

I was thinking of doing an Afrika Korps Tiger 1, with the Afrika korps desert camoflage. I was at Tankfest at Bovington earlier in the year and was thinking of basing it of Tiger 131 there. My other idea was an eastern front whitewash camo Tiger 1.

Accuracy would be good but I'm flexible depending on the difficulty of the modifications. I'll have a nosey at the guides and tips though to see the what would await

A good idea Craig, perhaps it would help if you don't already know that Tunisian Tigers did not carry the Palm tree insignia of the Afrika Korp,
If you go the Winter camo route HERMAN BIX did an excellent Eastern Front Tiger 1 in Winter camo, you will find it on the HENG LONG BUILDS Pages, Highly recommended.

Craig if you want the authoritive list of the Tunisian Tigers differences I suggest you type into the SEARCH BOX on the top right of this page,
"Tunisian Tiger"
Then scroll down to the 4th entry by DAVID BYRDEN titled BITS & BOBS.
Everything you need to know is listed and having tried the modifications myself I tell in truth they are a challenge. Good luck

Tunisian Tigers come in two sorts; the 501 and 504 battalions.
The Bovington Tiger is a 504 battalion Tiger, and they tend to be very similar to commercial models, because of course the model companies used the Bovington tank as their exemplar.
