Two Tigers

Post by Tankdude »

I wish I could take the credit for this "Das Reich" tiger, but I found it in my local model shop sitting on the counter for sale. I was in the shop buying paint for a Tiger build I was doing on a Heng long Tiger I for a friend and could not resist this.
It was an early Heng long without smoke or sound and looks to have not been used much at all, I brought a Taigen chassis for it and converted it to Heng long 2.4ghz, fitted sound and a modified smoker unit. I would like to eventually use a IBU2 board so I can play with sound cards and stuff and use a 2.4 ghz transmitter and receiver.I have fairly good modelling skills but no way could I weather a model like how this is done, I find this sort of work fascinating.

The second Tiger I have biult up for a friends son, it was an old Heng long Tiger in bluey grey colour, slightly beaten up and needing some TLC. I was told to do it similar to Tiger 131 but think I have the colours a bit "out" but think it looks quite striking despite this.
I have fitted cast white metal hatches all over, metal smoke launchers and seperate tools, and etched brass debris screens on the rear grilles. It has a new aluminium barrel and LED machine gun, I didn't do the mantlet correction or any other heavy stuff, just kept it to a light make-over to start with.

No weathering on this one yet, it looks factory fresh compared to some of the awesome models I've seen on this forum.

I'd leave it unweathered if it were mine, it looks great as is.

Thanks for the nice comments guys, really appreciated.
The "Das Reich" Tiger S21, I have been doing some research on the real S21 at the battle of Kursk. It looks as battered as my model does but there are some differences like the real one did not have spare track holders on the turret or smoke launchers but a bit of modellers licence takes care of that, certainly not going to start reworking it to that extent.
I was puzzled as the spare tracks obscure the turret number but I have seen photos of others fitted with track holders and they do cover the number so I guess its ok, I have also got a spare chassis now and some other bits and pieces to start making a third Tiger, may do one in dark grey eastern front scheme.

"Das Reich" had very few Tigers with turret spare track holders. They simply painted the numbers in the usual place and didn't put tracks in the holders as far as I can see.
