Planet Transmitters....

Post by wibblywobbly »

A little dicky bird has told me that Planet are no longer manufacturing transmitters. Once the existing stocks are gone...they are gone.

If you want receivers, I guess now would be a good time to buy them. Bit of a shame really, I liked their radio's, but the market is now flooded with cheap high spec transmitters from the Land of the Pot Noodle, and some manufacturers are struggling to compete.

Debated a Planet radio until the boys at Bovington said get a Spektrum, I did an have never looked back.

You're right though, radios have got silly cheap recently.

The one factor that has put me off using planet radio for a tank is that the failsafe function cannot be set by the user. I have a vision of one of my models driving into a wall due to loss of signal.

I think that all of the boards have them, even my RX18's will stop if they lose a signal. Mind you, failsafe or not, it doesn't seem to affect anyone's ability to aim at the nearest house/wall/pond from what I can see, myself included. :{

Easy way to test is put the tank on a block, run it, then switch the tx off, and see what happens.

Simple fix is to have controller throttle on left stick and swap the receiver leads so driving is on right stick (heng long style) that way if throttle on it will only fire the gun and not drive off.

Or for tamiya style throttle on right stick.

It's dead easy on the planet radios, as there is a switch inside to switch between me 1+2. Plus a lot of other controllers you can also switch modes 1-4 with the software.
