Taigen Tiger Technical Help

Post by westyIII »

Hi there,

I have a problem with my 2.4ghz Taigen/Heng Long Tiger, specifically:

It just stopped working when I unplugged the Smoke Unit. Now the receiver board does not respond to any Transmitter input. Could you help me troubleshoot please?

What I have done so far:

I have tried rebinding, to no success.

The tank headlights blink when turned on.

The tank headlights only blink, nothing happens.

No function works on the tank.

The batteries are fully charged.

What's next?

Thanks for the help!!

Hi Will,
First switch off everything,
Replace the batteries in your transmitter, if you are confident they are good, try wrapping them in foil (the contacts in the battery box are famous for being awful) TAKE CARE it is not a strong bit of kit,
Next you have to switch on the TANK in a particular order, TRANSMITTER ON FIRST and then SWITCH ON THE TANK, and are you absolutely sure the main battery is fully charged?

Did you make sure you plugged everything back into the right sockets?

Hey up.

Thanks for the input.

Batteries in Transmitter are fresh, and the LED flashes to show binding attempt, then goes solid. I assume this rules out a dodgy connection on the transmitter, I'll give the contacts a quick clean as well.

I've tried the binding procedure many times, in the order you suggested to no avail. Main battery is 100% charged.

Yes, all plugged in correctly. Mine is the Taigen, with fan, so slightly different.

For further testing it only has the upper turret functionality.

There is power going to the board as there is LED on tank, board and fan are powered.

Any more thoughts?

UHHHHHHHHHHH...Unplug the smoker????????? :shifty: ?...it might have a short in it...or you may have plugged it in backwards...usually that isn't a problem...but it may have caused a disruption on the RX board itself...in the extreme case...you might have to replace the RX

Sorry Alpha, that was the first thing tried. The tank issues started when I unplugged the smoker! ;)

Since then the tank cannot recognise input from the transmitter. The tank LEDs just blink, and do not go solid.

I have tried everything is plugged in, and I have cycled through plugging in all the different functions of the tank one at a time, to no avail.

I have resigned to replacing the RX, does anyone know of any places that have them in stock, WD are out.

Cheers

Did the malfunction occur when you switched the tank on after removing the smoker, or when you switched the tank on after plugging it back in?
Was the tank switched off when you unplugged it, or plugged it back in?

If the lights are blinking then you have power to the board.
If the tx/rx are bound, then you have a signal to the board.

If everything is unplugged except the speaker and volume control, and there is still no start up sound, then the tx button is not activating the board. Check that the volume is at the midway point, this ensures that it is not 'off'.

Two possibilities:
1. The tx button is not making contact. Try wiggling your finger on it as you press. I have a tx that needs that.
2. The board is fried. Pretty much no option but to buy a new RX18, or spend a little more and buy an aftermarket board that will transform the tank into one with full sound and IR etc.

Open the case and remove the pcb, takes a couple of seconds. Get a magnifying glass and look for fried/scorched components, if there are any, you know for sure that the board is past its sell by date, you have nothing to lose by taking a look. :{

To be honest, I am not sure if the tank was on or off. Sorry.

The lights are blinking.
The TX has a constant LED, and the RX LED flashes, then goes solid after a few seconds.

Wiggle the TX button? The start switch, thats an idea!

I had a look at the PCB, and there is no obvious scorch marks, and the fan and light are still powered.

Ok, my guess is that the RX18 has partially blown, the permanently powered functions seem to working, but anything controlled via the tx isn't. Eg the board isn't processing the signals from the tx.

Unfortunately they aren't serviceable items, so it looks like the only option is a new board.

I tried pushing in the button on the TX, did not work I am afraid.

I have order a replacement RX, amongst a pile of goodies from the wonderful Forgebear.
