Maxwell multi function unit

Post by Rangie81 »

Hi
has anyone used or found a review of the Maxwell multi function unit as advertised at Tankzone?
Looks like a direct replacement for the RX18 and I would def like a more realistic sound.

That one sneaked in under the radar, good find!

It looks almost as if it could be a re-jigged SLU unit, as that was a Tamiya clone? Wish Tankzone had some more info on it, eg IR ?

Did a bit of digging around. The MC5000 board looks as if it is an RX18 in an enclosure with a fan (could be wrong, not found any decent pics), the sound unit is anybodys guess, I haven't found one anywhere and no video's of one working.

If anyone knows where there is a spec on what this set up is, and whether anyone has actually bought one and tested it, it might be of use to anyone thinking of buying one. As always with any new-fangled arrivals in the market place, I tend to avoid them until I know what I am getting.

Might be worth asking someone who sells them if they are compatible, before you jump in, better to be safe than sorry. :S

I emailed tankzone and got this reply
Hello Eddie

Simple answer is no.

The Maxwell MFU is designed to work with either its own Faraday 2.4GHz radio system the Heng Long receiver and 27MHz radio. i.e. it need to plug into a receiver unit. This allow you to upgrade in steps by changing the MFU which give you the sound effects and the Faraday hobby grade radio and receiver separately.

The Taigen T5 controller has the receiver element built-in to the unit itself so must be used with only its own 2.4GHz radio.

The Maxcwell is much beter than the Taigen T5. Sounds are similar to the Clark TK22.

Kind regards

Kin

Well that answers that question, lol. No joy with a Taigen 2.4, but ok with the others.

I am guessing that this is a sound upgrade, and that standard IR isn't a part of the package?

Looking at the cost of everything, by the time the tx, sound and drive units have been purchased, it doesn't make a lot of economic sense to me as it will be up into the Clark/IBU territory but with no IR? At least with the Clark/IBU/Elmod a standard 2.4ghz tx can be used, and they are as cheap as chips nowadays.
