Yes, I just call it the Wasserschlepper cuz I think it sounds cool. Either way, one very cool vehicle and if I ever get to that skill level I'd love to build one.

Yes, Chase, that's an IBU2 in the Jagdtiger. I'm very happy with it. I also have an IBU2 in my IR Tiger and the Jagdpanther and next will be the Panther G. I think I'll get at least one more Asp and do a second tammy compatible IR tank, but after that my main go-to board will be the IBU2 and I'll only use the TK22 in tanks that are too small for an IBU2, like maybe the Tauchpanzer and the PzIV.

I plan on putting an ASP in my Abrams. But for my other tanks, I think I'll wait to see what Taigen's hobby grade MFU is all about. Other than that, I think I use the old Tiagen board with a Mako to get battle compatibility.

Chase, you might like this video. First you hear the Asp start up (this is my favorite of the four different start up tracks, she just doesn't wanna catch!) then three different IBUs start up, then you can hear the Asp revvin' up down the line. You'll find the Asp can give good background sounds for not just the tank it's in. I'll be interested to see what Kevin's done with the Abrams. I think he might have video of it up on RCTA. The way I understand it, in the real Abrams once the motor reaches RPM it doesn't really change that much so there isn't much variance in the sound. It will be interesting to see what's on the other sound tracks, but you can always change them if you want. Are you getting the 9XR to go with it? I'm pretty sure you need at least seven channels to take advantage of all the features of the Asp.



I think you might have a long wait for Taigen to change their electronics.

Here was Kevin's response in your Tiger 1 Asp thread back on RCU.

Just a heads up to all- all of the radio firmware and presets used by Gary are FREE - All of the info needed to convert a $80 9X radio to what Gary was sent is available online. No you do not need a "$$$" radio to run this. Gary has just chosen to have the radio setup and custom modified. He could of simply loaded the available Asp model file onto his existing 9X. Remember too that a great radio is typically a one up cost and something like the 9X/Pro and Taranis have exceptional mixing capabilities and plenty of switches to operate anything.

The firmware running on ASP is always being improved and added to. Since Gary's board was shipped over 1 month ago the following features are now available on Asp
1. 4 Channel radio support

Simplest setup possible - just plug in 4 channels of any non-programmable radio - Asp starts automatically (like Tamiya, same channel order as Tamiya)

Best with a programmable 6 channel radio - especially one with a pot on CH6 to control volume.

In consultation with RCTA's Russian friends even more IR battle modes are now available
3. Artillery Mode - 2 lives, 10 sec reload, 60 round mag, firing the 2-shot kill code (y888) - Best with the Dragon Dome IR emitter
The Fighting mode options have also changed - the biggest change to:
4. Recon vehicle - 1 life, MG ir plus a 2 round Y888 mag with 3 sec reload to give some sting.

These changes in the past month are the reason as to why there is unlikely to ever be a printed manual - sorry not going to happen. Any printed manual sent to Gary a month ago is now out of date - and the costs associated with such a manual wasted. Asp is dymanic like the firmware for the 9X or Taranis - always being improved and features added to it. Any Asp's owners best friend will be the update dongle. It will allow you to update to new features and customise Asp to your particular requirements. There will instead be an Asp Wiki Site that will function as the reference guide. The initial RACT Wiki site had to be closed as it was attacked by spam bots. A new Wiki site is under construction.

While it's true that you can't get all of the features with a 4 channel, it will still be better than a stock setup. Either way though, funding for the Abrams just isn't in the budget at the moment.

Hi Chase, and thanks for posting that. I still pop in to read at RCU once in a while so I had seen that post and it raised a few questions. Your timing is good, because just about 20 minutes ago I emailed Kevin and one of the things I asked was if he could be more specific about what features you still have with 4 or 6 ch TXs. Obviously with a 4 ch you won't be able to control volume from the TX as that requires a separate channel, but hopefully he'll break it down and then you can make a more informed choice. I say go with as many channels as you can! I've also wondered because if (when) I get more Asp boards it would be nice to be able to run both those tanks at the same time, so if I can just swap the RX and go with a 6ch for one that would solve the multiple tanks problem.

And yes, Kevin is right, I could've just downloaded the stuff to my 9X, but I'm having major problems with that TX (bad gimbal) and besides, I wanted a 9XR Pro and the FrSky module so I can get model matching. Still another option for having multiple tanks on Asp boards. I'm already about 90% sure the Famo will run on an Asp (when I finally get one), so that was another good excuse to get a better radio. And last but not least, with model matching and as many separate receivers that you can run with a 9XR I'm thinking about squibs for videos. I could run each station with an RX and a battery pack, and one switch to control detonation for the squib. I could set a whole bunch of them where I want them and trigger them as needed. Of course, that requires multiple operators so maybe I better plan on getting you and Ryan up here sometime next summer for a video project.

I also want to look into the sound upgrade for the IBU2, and see what the price difference and advantages/disadvantages would be.

Hi Gary,

In the video of the Jagdtiger are you still running it on the Taigen electronics? If so the sound seems to be better then their previous offerings. I know you are planning on installing your IBU just didn't know if you had done that yet.
