A Little Convoy Stops For A Conference

Post by Max-U52 »

When I got home from the Detroit Tank Command get together today it was pretty nice out so I thought I'd get the first shots with the Opel Blitz. It will look a lot different next summer when I set up the village again.

I've still got a ways to go before I start getting the shots Ryan gets, but I think I'm getting better pretty quickly. It really helps having a proper camera.

Here's the video of the Tiger getting back underway.

Took this with the T5 so it took forever to upload. This is one of four "engine start" tracks available on cold start with the Asp, and this one is my favorite. "Darn thing don't wanna start!"

I'm still getting used to the sensitivity of the turret controls with this board, but when done right (as in - "not like this") it's pretty impressive, as are all the controls with the Asp. So far the Asp/9XR Pro is the best driving combo I have, and some of the features are really, really cool, like after the hard start I rev the engine before taking off, and the German voice tracks are also very cool. Now I need to try out the new speakers and see if they make a difference, but I need to confer with Kevin on that. End points are set low on the volume channel (ch6) and I think that's because the juno board has a 20 watt amp and stock speakers might not handle that. I also have another trio of speakers on the way to experiment with and the bigger of those is rated at 15 watts. The two smaller speakers will be OK cuz the ports for those are only 3 watts. This makes me want to try the sound upgrade on the IBU2 in the Jagdtiger to see what happens. The JT should have plenty of space for good speakers.

And just by the way, I'm really enjoying myself here at RCTW. This is a very good forum that I wish I had discovered a long time ago. It runs much smoother and faster than my old forum and the advertising is no where near as intrusive.

Stay tuned for the Jagdtiger box Opening, the JT will be here Thursday, along with the airsoft recoil turret and a new elevation/traverse unit that I might try to adapt for the Jagdtiger and the Jagdpanther. I'm also considering a permanently mounted FPV camera as a kind of targeting assist. Kevin showed me a real cool set-up where the screen mounts to the TX and you drive normally most of the time, just glancing at the screen for aiming the main gun, whether IR or airsoft. I made sure NOT to glue the FPV goggles permanently so I can remove the screen and use it any way I please, but if the system works out I may get another, dedicated screen for any tanks equipped with FPV cameras. I could mount a camera in each tank (they're pretty cheap, like under $15 US each) and move the TX and screen from tank to tank and TX to TX. The Asp even has a filtered power supply built in for just such uses. Anyway, there's quite a few more items in the box so it should be great fun, and this should keep me busy all winter long.

Man... I'm wanting an Asp more and more!

On a side note, you should be able to just plug the servo from the recoil turret into the Asp and not need to use the control unit that comes with it.
