Tiger escape hatch won't stay shut.
Question for you guys I opened the turrets escape hatch and have it detailed nicely however now I have a little problem, when the tank hits bumps the hatch falls open after a bump or 2. So how do I keep it closed till I want to open it? I've thought about a magnet but the hatch isn't magnetic so I'm stumped, any help would be great guys thanks.

Good Morning,
Jack, I've had success with gluing a strong, small earth magnet, inside, right above where a vertical hatch closes then putting a line of the magnetic tape along the edge of the hatch. Good luck, my friend. You'll have the fix in no time.

Painless

That there is a great suggestion ....but instead of magnetic tape...cut a "round" of tin from a tin can and glue it inside your hatch...the magnet will grab that with no hesitation lolPainlessWolf wrote:Good Morning,

Jack remember when you were making Brass filings with your Dremel the other day? Why not make Iron filings and mix them with an Ivory tinted paint and brush that mixture onto the inside of the Hatch and fix the magnet as Painless describes, You only want to hold the hatch shut but with ALPHA's suggestion you will need a Jack Hammer to release the thing
, Just kidding Colonel it is a very good idea, See I can be patronising too.

Both great ideas! Too bad I have to take apart the door to do this but I guess I it is what it is.

I would say the most you have to do is split the turret open to glue the magnet....you could actually just measure the diameter of the hatch to make the round and glue it to the hatch while it's openjackalope wrote:Both great ideas! Though as Shaun said...it might be so hard to open...to which I will add....so hard to open you should just glue it shut

PS...Another idea...instead of making a round....just glue a washer in there....but if you use a rare earth magnet...be careful when you open the hatch...you might tear the entire turret off

Re: Tiger escape hatch won't stay shut.
Sorry Shaun didn't see your reply some how, not sure there? Not a bad idea either!
Using what you guys said as a starting point I think I'm going to make a small notch in the inside detailing of the hatch and add a small piece of metal washer cut to fit and then add a strong magnet inside the turret directly above the hatch at its 12 o'clock position. I'm hoping this works as the metal and the magnet will not touch each other but rather be within about 3mm apart.
Off to the store for a magnet I'll let you guys know if this worked.

Re: Tiger escape hatch won't stay shut.
Added 3 small metal washers into the detail backing of the escape hatch that I made and a magnet that is the size of a pencil eraser and claimed it will hold up to 12oz of weight to the inside of the turret roof directly in line with the 3 small washers and SUCESS! The hatch now stays shut! I tap on the turret roof and can watch the hatch start to fall away but then gets pulled back to the closed position. I'll take it outside later today for a real test driving off road to see if it falls open.
Thanks guys!
Thanks guys!
