Heng Long 2.4 Ghz Upgrade Issues
Heng Long 2.4 Ghz Upgrade Issues
I recently repainted and upgraded a Heng Long smoke and sound Tiger I to metal treads, drive sprockets and idlers. Once completed there were multiple issues with response from the tank, including intermittent motion in the treads and turret, as well as no response from several other functions. I initially believed that I had somehow damaged the receiver board and decided to use that as an excuse to upgrade to the 2.4 ghz system as well. Now everything functions except that the unit turns itself off when making turns, or occasionally when attempting to fire the airsoft mechanism. I haven't figured out if this is a faulting RX-18 board. I've read other posts concerning issues like the idlers not being in line with the treads causing binding, but this does not seem to be an issues. It has occurred to me that the additional weight of the treads may be too much for the motors, but I'm new to this hobby and don't know if that could be an issue. Incidentally, I did not upgrade to the metal gears yet, though I have noted there are upgrades with more powerful motors. Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated...

Hi Jethro,Welcome to the Forum,
Do I understand correctly? You are running a HENG LONG Tiger 1 on Metal wheels, Sprockets, Idlers and Metal tracks while still using the Nylon Gearbox,
If so then the Gearbox is being asked to do more work than it was designed for.
I cannot help wondering why you changed to Metal Tracks? Certainly the Traction of the Plastic tracks is almost as good as metal and puts a lot less strain through the drive train although saying that, all my Tanks I must confess have Metal tracks but my Tigers use Taigen 5 to 1 Steel gearboxes which makes the work easier for the whole drivetrain.

Jethro if you go to
www.welshdragonmodels.com
if you click on Gearboxes in the menu you will see all the metal gearboxes that Taigen make and they will fit different models so do be careful you don't get a gearbox that won't fit a Tiger 1 ,
Steve at welsh dragon will gladly walk you through the choices, just ask him

also try the battery sometimes the male ans female connectors are loose so when you fire the gun it jerks the tank and connection is lost on the battery leads check they are not loose run the tank wiggle the battery wire see if it cuts out

Re: Heng Long 2.4 Ghz Upgrade Issues
All: The upgrade I did was for the Sprockets, Idlers and Metal tracks, leads the road wheels. I decided to do the upgrade because of the tank throwing the treads all the time. The yellow battery is fully charged as the forums have indicated this is a common issue. I suspected from the start that it may have been the lack of the metal gear system which I believe has more powerful motors, but as I am new to this hobby it was only an "uneducated" guess. I will swap back to the plastic treads to see if that is a temporary fix while I look into the metal gear box and a more powerful battier pack.. Thanks all.
