I'm in the middle of a panzer III rebuild on a used tank. Both the traverse and elevation motors keep getting stuck. Must have been a bad batch or something with dead spots.
I dont want to mess about putting replacement heng long motors back in as I've had this issue before. Is there a better small motor that will fit in the HL traverse/elevation gearboxes? I was thinking scalextric motors, but i'm not sure if they are the right size.

Re: Heng long Traverse and elevation motors
Is it the motors or the gears that are jamming? You could try disassembling them and seeing if there are any loose bits of plastic or bad mouldings that are causing a block somewhere?

I've had them to bits, its like the motor has a dead spot. You have to turn the motor by hand and it kicks into life again. Thats with the motor taken out of the gear box

Re: Heng long Traverse and elevation motors
Putting the motor from an old airsoft unit into the traverse is an old trick to get faster traverse (not realistic but gives edge in IR battles) I guess can use same in the elevation.
One note on the airsoft motor, because it only ever ran in one direction in the airsoft unit it runs smooth that way but rough other way so if you connect to a battery and run it in the rough direction for 30-60 minutes it should help it run smoother when in assembled gearbox.

Re: Heng long Traverse and elevation motors
I guess that you could always try hooking up a bare motor and dropping it into a glass of water, leave it running for a while and see if that washes out carbon build up on the brushes?
Tankbears suggestion is a good one, I've done that trick myself.

Re: Heng long Traverse and elevation motors
Nice, will give that a shot. I can slow the traverse/elevation in the IBU2 setup I think
I can try cleaning the old one out. I think the problem is because someone has flooded the model with oil. The little gear boxes and motors were dripping

Only if using servos. Cannot adjust the DC motor speeds apart from the regular proportional control.mike1268 wrote:Nice, will give that a shot. I can slow the traverse/elevation in the IBU2 setup I think

Ah ok
I'm considering changing the elevation and recoil to servo. It's mainly the traverse I need to fix. I will try cleaning the motor up, knowing i can use the airsoft motor
