king tiger steering

Post by wizard4 »

Hi Guys I have the heng long king tiger with upgraded tracks and gear boxes, I have real problems steering it if i try to steer left or right whilst going forward the tank starts to lose power and turns in a very wide circle, once i straighten it it gets back up to speed again, I always thought that when doing the fast spin one track would go in the oposite direction from the other to enable it to turn almost on its length, on mine one track stops and the other one turns.
Any thoughts gentlemen as I am more used to r/c warships.

Cheers

You need a better battery. The stock HL one is pretty crap and can struggle even with a plastic tracked KT.

I found that was happening with my heavy torro KT the motors were just not strong enough to turn it without that long drift unless it was on a slick surface.

Start with the battery and let us know how it works afterwards.

My King Tiger weighs in at almost 20lbs (10kgs) and can do 360 spins however mines as far from stock as possible.

Is this the same Tamiya KT Wizard?....if you are still using the Tamiya RX ...then that track movement is normal....but yeah it does sound like you need a better battery

No this is the HL TK when it does the fast spin only one track moves to turn it the other one does not go onto reverse, also on fast spin it continues turning when I have put the lever in neutral.
But i will get a more powerfull battery.

How long do you charge your Battery.....the method I use for charging the stock batteries is a minimum 5 hour initial charge...2 hour recharge with the stock drip charger

That track movement isn't normal for a HL...usually one does spin in reverse while one spins forward....not sure how old your KT is...if it's new...shoot some pledge on those gearboxes...it's a wax...so it won't hurt the plastic hull should you get over spray on it...if it's old...take the gearboxes out and degrease them with Simple Green and water...dry them out .... relube with pledge...what can I say...I like pledge for these gearboxes :D ...Run the bare chassis full speed forward and then back...I usually have at least two batteries ready when I do this...wipe away any spatter and reassemble your tank
With luck..it will be smoother running :D

I had problems turning my Stug III on grass. I found upgrading to 400 motors resolved the issue.

The metal gear boxes I got came with upgraded motors, but they were still rubbish on grass

The motors I got:
J Perkins PRO 400 Electric Flight M

don't seem too fast but plenty of torque. This supplier has been out of stock for ages but you can find them else ware

No problems with mine on all surfaces...I have four...running chassis Two Panzer IIIs and two Stugs ...with one in the works ...one Stug has the winter ketten on...great stuff ...goes over anything with ease ..never had to change a gearbox or motor yet...did add tensioners but that's about it
