Apologies for the many Images Gents....researching this build has become as tedious as building a Sherman....every time I do a search...different photos come up...the example I found one image that had the conduit done like how I have it...somehow disappeared after that search...luckily I found another the other evening (the last photo from top view in the trio showing the rear of the tank...with close observation you can see the shadow of the conduit cover ) What offers even more of a challenge is not that there are that many variants....but more emulations of field modified units ...the gun shields is a for instance...not sure if I'm going to put them on...but there are images of the M1a2...that have both cupolas with them...some with the one for the gunner only...found the close up photo of the gunner's shield along with the commander's...it is the only close up I could find...so should I put one or both of them on...at least the mounting can be seen with greater detail
All I can say more is that every image has relevance especially after removing the SEP...as details change a bit once that is done....What I also found was that this model of the M1a2 is actually pretty accurate...as you could do it up "as is" straight from the box

There are hundreds of variants of the M1 just like the Sherman because its been around since 1980 and have seen combat in many different environments. The ONLY color I don't think I've ever seen is white.

Hey Jack...not up to date on these modern tanks...wasn't a tanker lol....but isn't the M1 produced by one company?
The reason I used the word Variants for the Sherman is because of allied participation in it's production

Is that what that is...thanks Tankbear...it's kind of an ugly tank ...worse that it's white...though if I think about it...if some company came out with it...I could put ANZIO markings on it

That piece of angle iron you mention that's it the edge of the blow out panel frame. I don't think it covers any conduit. Looked back at the pics I used when I did mine I have one that shows it on all the tanks in one unit and it looks more like it was added more as a toehold to keep people from slipping on the angled part of the blow out panel frame that is easily accessible to GI feet.
The second pic (although it doesn't give a side view) doesn't seem to shoe that added angle iron piece.
