PANZER 4
Re: PANZER 4
Hi Raven No you have to dismantle the gun from from the turret which means basicly a total strip down of the tank, so a clear worktop and a couple of small contains will be needed to put all the screws in so you dont mix them up put a lable where they came from(take a picture of tank when you start and take them as you strip it down so you can use them as a referance for rebuild )
.While you have it open take out the gearboxes and run them in first the motors I use to rechargable AA batteries remove them from gearbox and tape them to worktop then run each motor till the aa batteries are flat ,then do the same with the motors back in the gearboxes I perfer to use oil to run mine in other people use things like tooth paste.after they have run in clean and check they have no crap in .All the time the motors are running you can carrie out the mods to the rest of the tank .
ON the panzer 4 check the suspention arms are not loose and that all the wheels are free and not comming un glued they are glued together and some just fall off .So before you start have a clear picture of all the mods you want to do so you can do them in order I usualy start at the top and work down .So the gun barrel is at the top when you are dismatling the turret there are a couple of small screw at the side of the gun mantle dont miss these. If you are fitting a recoil unit do this as part of the gun barrel mod because they have to work together.

Re: PANZER 4
Looking really good Pete. I like your hidden sensors and making the airsoft into a recoil unit is brilliant. That's another job I can do on my PZIII.
Would it be possible to turn the airsoft around so as to make the recoil more realistic ?.

Re: PANZER 4
Hi Raven Better to have metal gearboxes if you running metal tracks but you could try the plastic ones the Germans seam to prefer plastic if you take a look at Panzerketten alot of guys do all sorts of mods to there tanks but keep plastic gears .
Hi Nick this is the post for converting BB gun to recoil unit its alot like one I found at Panzerketten with a few mods . http://www.rctankwarfare.com/Forums/ind ... 200.0.html.

Re: PANZER 4
I wonder if the Germans like the plastic gears because they might be quieter ?.
Pete I've been looking at your recoil mod again and correct me if I'm wrong. But from what I see it looks like both of them spring back and then power forward. Therefore giving a realistic recoil action much like the real thing. Is that correct ?.

Re: PANZER 4
Hi Nick Thats correct always try to make them like the real thing. Have a resistor fitted to my Panzer 4 which is the converted BBgun it springs back fast and is very slow forward,I got the idea from YHR post how he slowed the recoil down it works ,take a look at his post about stug recoil on RCU he has come up with a very good way of slowing the recoil here is his post http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_8427967/tm.htm.
The way YHR does the recoil is differant to mine but its very easy to do converting the BBgun is not to hard, but you have to take it apart stacks of times each time you do something you have to assmble and test to make sure everything is working .The hardest part of doing both recoils is setting the microswitch a little to much it stops short not enough and it cycles though .the resistor goes on the extra negative wire which goes to the battery .

Re: PANZER 4
hi pete i bought the new barrel just need to ask the barrel that comes out of the mantlet is thicker than the one i bought do i have to cut part off the old barrel also is the color of the inside hatches off white
thanks chris
thanks chris
Re: PANZER 4
Hi Raven As far as the barrel goes never fitted a bought one I make my own from scatch and alter or make what every is needed, so will have to bow to those who have already done this I know they cut off part of the barrel when they change the barrel in the Sherman .The unless altered by the crew hatches are a sort of of white cream colour from the factory ,I think this was to make it a bit lighter inside when all the hatches are closed ,but does look a little odd when they are open camo tank with whiteish hatches showing from the air they must have hightlighted the tank and given the pilot something to aim at.
