Wood decks? I mean I know it got rough but WOODEN ARMOR?

Jack I agree, what a terrible thing to happen, having to use wood for armour, although depending on the wood used it has incredible abilities to absorb damage and depending how dense the wood is it could well be bullet proof.
And if you think using wood is bad news what about us? Most of us have to rely on PLASTIC to protect our Tanks.

It's made of wood and is called a splinter gaurd? Those wacky Germans! LOL!

Plastic or ceramic now days.

After reading the link it makes sense now. It was only intended to stop shrapnel and ricochet's never intended to be armor per say but rather to add another layer of protection to the radiators.

No different to the wooden armour they put on the side of some Sherman's had to help couldn't hurt!!!
