Re: "what might have been" (rebuild)
Onwards, patches of applique armour made from 3mm plastic card and surrounded by milliput, the rear quarter box was made from plastic card of only 1mm the scale plans for this came from septon (thanks mate), the rear hinges from plastic rod scored to look like hinges
and thin strips of plastic to make locking tabs with gauge wire about 0.4mm thick..
The fittings to the rear of the tank made up of plastic various thickness and thin wire to make the pins that hold the chain in place,
this had to spaced out and a small bar fitted underneath otherwise there would be no strength in this fitting.
i include pic 1418 again too show this bar and the pins and the chain.
Top of the turret rear aroured box is squares of plastic card ,square plastic rod cut in thin slices and the middle of these a thinner
slice of plastic rod to look like nuts and bolts, .The brass rods are for the cleaning rods with very small 12BA screws inset
into them and the other end has a small amount of thread added so it looks the part. then the middle was painted to look like wood......

Re: "what might have been" (rebuild)
Hi Pete (Wrighty), just for you yep on/off swtch under the enginebay cover, also i used no fewer, than five periscopes
in this build so i did cheat and purchased the scopes not for the sherman but for the pershing as they come in packets of (5).
Front hatch opened with micro saws and the thread method i was surprised this really does work and the only advice
that i can say to those of you who have yet to try it, is when you find it (the thread) starts to bit into the plastic pull a fresh piece down and cut a little with this if you go to far using the thread without constantly pullin down fresh thread it will keep breaking and you will soon get fed up and sick of doing it, i have found a great little tool to help me and that is what a fishman freind has let me borrow and this is what they use to ty there flyies with.

Re: "what might have been" (rebuild)
The hard,s part of the build was the fitting of the recoil unit (a) because it was a long time after-thought and every thing was glued down
and (b)my old fat fingers do not allow me entry to small opennings.the fitting of the machine gun was also a pain because of the way that the internal trunnions fit ,at this moment in time the second 30 cal gun in the turret is still whole but i will short it a when i am satisfied,
that i have finnished fiddling about.
The barrel elevation is by micro servo which should have a servo-slow fitted but the one i purchased does not work so until i buy another one the barrel will move as fast as i move the tranny control knob as i have it on the flaps control.
The straps are made from masking tape cut into thin 1mm strips and the buckles from N gauge railway ladders ,turned out ok i think!

Re: "what might have been" (rebuild)
One shot here shows the angle that the front bullet defector has to be.
Inside as you can see there is not too much room.
That is about it lads, hope you found it useful, i am now off to play with this youtube thing so i can upload the film,
when this is ready , i shall put it on the general forum page, if anybody has any questions pop them on this page or please pm me,
and if i can be of help to anybody just shout.

Re: "what might have been" (rebuild)
Yes, Brilliant idea for the buckles Pete. I know what you mean about 'fat finger syndrome' I had the same problem fitting the recoil in my VVSS Sherman. Took hours to find a way to cram it all in. In the end I had to bolt it to the roof of the turret and use a flexible cable to connect to the gun breech so the elevation would still work.
